Hi, just reading your stuff, I went to smeipermanent and i thought it sucked. it just shows that there is hardly anything happening in graphic design at the moment. and I am reading to receive arguments aginst this.
- XC010
cool. you go first
- Spazmatic0
you mean me? The reason i thought it sucked was that it showed what was in fashion at the moment and thats all. Frost was the only different designer there. I was ready to see lots of different stuff and be inspired but all i saw was the same stuff over and over. I was also interested to hear more about how and why they work rather than this is our stuff it's cool.

i kind of see what you mean, but most of the presenters were really at the top of thier game, which is impressive, no-one ever really goes into detail about how things were made. I thought everyone had a pretty unique style and great stories about how they got to where they are. though some were much more interesting than others.

Dont get me wrong I did enjoy some of the presenters, Im here checking out newstodaybecause of their presentation

spazmatic; i see where u comin from, u made some good points. it was a lot of this is our stuff, its cool. i wish some of them talked more about where they're headed, what they're hoping to do etc instead of about what they've done.. like instead of 'lets reflect on the past' they should be like 'this is what we're excited about happening in the future! this is where design is going, if we have anything to do with it..' However, i loved it and sucked it dry getting all i could out of it. ;)

yeah, ive been to last yrs and this yrs semi-permanent and i think its good overall. i mean there just arnt that many design conventions out there... well ..ones that get to australia and are accessible to students/general public..neways...;p while i agree that it would be better if they talked more about what they are going to do ...(especially ILM!) i think just having them there and talking to us themselves is great...and it is getting better as it progresses....i think it will continue to grow and improve. :)

amen to that. i hear ya bro! lol

I agree with you Spazmatic. I also went to last year's SP conference, and coming from Melbourne I have also attended the AGIdeas Conferences over the past few years. In my opinion, there hasn't been much change in content over the past 7 years, except maybe in style and technology. I keep hearing "This is cool... or, I saw this and ripped it off... etc". It scares me that people are happy to play this game of 'follow the leader' and not tell people why. I enjoyed hearing people like Newstoday, This Is A Magazine (except for the the guy talking over the girl), and Vince Frost (to name a few) because they actually talked ABOUT their ideas and processes, showed elements of risk-taking and innovation, and differentiated themselves as "designers" rather than "stylists". I was really enthused after hearing the approach that Newstoday had taken in terms of launching themselves... now that is what I call an idea!
