Which one is the best 19" LCD monitor for under $700?
My gf got Samsung SyncMaster 191T+, but it turned out to be really bad in terms of the refreshing rate (60 MAX).. at 1024\168 the fonts look very blurry. Higher resolution makes it almost impossible to see anything.
Any suggestions?
p.s.
video card is good.. cant blame it.THANX!!

if you do print stuff and colour calibration is important then the only lcd's who are colour "real" are the apple studio screens. and they are frekkin' expensive. you should rather go for an crt then. and you have reall good 22" diamondtron (like la cie uses) crt's < $700. then again that is if colour calib is important.

Spend your 700 on a CRT.
You'll get no quality in LCD for that kind of money.

Guys, I know CRT is da best.. i do use one for my work. LCD is for my girlfriend. She doesn't need a professional one.
Do all of LCD's have an average of 60-75Hz Max refreshing rate? I made a little research, and it seems to be true..
I just dont want her to hurt her beautiful eyes...

I got a nice 18" LCD with a 75hz refresh at 1280x1024 a while back for 460, now i've seen it for 400 when there are sales. Typically their are four different LCD panels used across the board, thats what makes them all seem so similar. From my research Samsung and I think it is AUtronic are the brands to go with, sorry to hear yours has such a low refresh, that would be annoying 75 is and has always been a comfortable sync for me. BTW this is the Proview 1866 or something of that nature... and uses an AUtronic panel I do believe... we have the same monitors at work as we had to research for the best choice for price and specs that could run 1280x1024 at 75hz for an application that we're running in our financial offices... After looking at them I ended up picking one up for myself... I'm not let down at all, and I have a CRT next to it, and try to keep the calibration as good as I can on this....

thanx for the info.
so, i assume that LCD's are just not capable of producing anything higher than 75-85Hz...
is there a difference between how LCD and CRT affect your eyes? maybe it's ok for LCD to have a low refreshing
rate..?i know that if on CRT it's lower than 85Hz, my eyes start to hurt. And it's recommended to have 100Hz.

I think it depends on the monitor, brightness and contrast in that equation as well.... from what I've read 70+ should be good. In comparison you're standard crt television is only 40-50hz. 85's gotta be fairly restrictive for ya with resolution limitations, etc., that sucks.

I've been quite happy with my 19" LCD Viewsonic VX-900. I keep it set at 1280x1024 at 75hz. No eyestrain at all. Supposed to have the highest contrast ratio. Has built in speakers too. Definitely worth the money... I had a rebate that brought it down to $700

LCD refresh only applies to the responsiveness of the display in updating changes to the image. If the image is not changing, LCD has absolutely no display flicker as on CRT, as there is a constant backlight. Better for your eyes.

i'm using Samsung 213T (21.3" LCD)and really happy with it. Don't know why u think Samsung LCD is really bad. I like it more than Sony 20" LCD.

FYI - LCD's aren't great for running at different resolutions. They're generally designed for one optimal resolution and things will get a little blurry running at different resolutions. It's all about pixels baby!

I have a pair of syncmaster 191t and they look super sweet. I have just about all sizes and brands to compare them to (formas lcd / apple lcd and lots of crts) and love these the best. $650 each online.
(1280x1024 with 75 refresh rate)
