how do I stroke the outside of an object instead of applying it to the center or inside?
no sexual comments please...

Im not sure if there is a real way to do it. I always copy the object and add a thicker stroke to the one in the back.

You could do it the old school way if the object is not very complex.
(on a Mac)
Select the object and do CMD-C (copy). Then do CMD-2 (lock it in place). Then do a CMD-B (paste behind). Now select the object you pasted behind the first object and start bumping up the stroke. This is one of the best ways to stroke text and other objects because you never fuss with the original paths... When you stroke Fonts on their own they start to deform.

Granted, this trick only works if you have a fill in the 'front' object - since the object behind will obviously also increase it's stroke width toward the inside of the shape.
Have a great week end everyone!
