So I was asked by a design firm I sent a lot of my work to last year if I would be interested in a fulltime gig with one of their clients...weird I know. But the company is fairly BIG so I jumped at the opportunity. Sent my work to them and heard through the contact that they really liked it, so then I talked to the VP of said company and had a good phone interview with him. The company is in a different state (but I really don't mind relocating), the VP said he would be coming to LA on a trip soon so we could meet up then. He asked if I could possibly send him some more of my work, which I did later that night. So this Monday I called and left a message with his secretary, 'just touching base to see how things are going and to let him know that I can always fly out there for the interview'. No call back and no response to the email I sent after talking to him on the phone.
What should I do next?? I'm thinking I should wait till next Monday and if I don't hear back, then write him an email? I just don't want to be pushy, but this job is perfect for me...and I soooooooo want to get it.
any advice on how I should play this out?

I'm probably the wrong person to give you any advice... I'm the one who posted the "Hi I got fired today thread..."
Mmm... give them a little time then call again. Sometimes they get tied up with shit and mean to call people back, but leave it for later.
I've gotta say though... I've been in situations where everything is going super peachy and then all of a sudden you never hear from them again. And that could be for a number of reasons: sometimes the position gets canceled, sometimes the budget changes, etc... etc...

true true...good advice. It's easy to sit here and focus on it, while in their position it might not be a huge priority yet.
I did read your post and I'm really sorry about your predicament. That really sucks, but take the time you now have to re-organize the portfolio and work on some personal challenges you feel you need to face. It will all work out. Things come full circle.

Don't worry about it. It sound like they are interested.

Sit tight! You have extended yourself and made yourself very available...so now it's time to sit tight and wait.
Remember this cat is a VP, and that VPs juggle a ton of important shit. Well, a lot of them do. Just remember your position on the pecking order is low and be patient. They need to go through the process however they do, and yes positions sometimes open and close quickly.
Wait a couple weeks and if you don't hear back, follow up with a phone call. In the meantime, don't sweat it...keep job hunting if you intend to move on...
Indeed, things do come full circle and the opportunity isn't perfect for you unless it comes through on its own.

Yeah, I'm unemployed and I find the hardest part of it is being patient, but that's all you can do. They want you and you don't have to win them over anymore. They're probably crunching some nunbers for you.
I have my first interview tomorrow and I'm glad the recruiter asked me if i could start next week if hired. That means a quick decision could come.

The VP said he would be in LA, so he probably travels quite a bit - so yeh don't sweat - they're probably just busy. I'd give it a week, then shoot off a short and polite email. In the email state that you will call within a week if you don't hear just to touch base and confirm they received the email. Briefly emphasise that you are still interested and excited.

bug him but not too much that you seem liek a pain in the ass ;)
- iDp0
Thank you all for your advice. Yeah now that I take a step back to look at the bigger picture, they did seem interested and I should just hang out and wait. If I don't hear anything I'll toss em an email to say hi, if they still don't answer I will follow up with picture of me flipping them off while wearing my pink tutu with nipple tassles. Then they will wish they called sooner!

UPDATE:
I wrote an email yesterday to say hi, sent them some comps I decided to design for them...and now they wrote to set up an interview. I'm very excited. Oh I didnt send the picture of me in the tutu...

UPDATE: Ok so I had my interview which went good. That was like a month ago now. I've been playing email tag with the VP since then. he keeps saying that he likes my stuff and that he will have more info on the job 'next week' ... but hes said this every week.
Two weeks ago he wrote 'I'm still trying to work a few details out. I like your work and especially your enthusiasm, I will be in NY till Monday, lets touch base next week.' So I'm thinking cool looks like wants to finalize some things and will probably offer the job next week. So the whole week goes by and I write him last Fri and asked if he still wanted to talk, so he writes back that 'Lets talk next week, I think I will have more info by then'. Well its now Thurs and I'm fucking dying to know if I got this job yet.
The position is something that they are creating, they've been outsourcing all their work for 9 years and finally decided that it would be wise to start and inhouse team. But I have no clue why the hell its taking this long. Any suggestions or insight? I really want this job but I'm starting to feel like the little yappy dog everyone wants to kick.

ok sooooo this is really strange. The VP wrote me not 5 minutes after I posted the last post. Looks like I got the job. I'll post more once I talk to him and get the final verdict.
- blaw0
good deal. congrats.
- k0na_an0k0
they took your designs and ran.
next week you'll see their company site looks like yours.
that sucks.
happens all the time.
- Nac0
You could have possibly got the job and instead of telling your partner who sits 5 feet away!! you go and post it on newstoday first. My feelings are hurt.
- Nac0
and here i was going to buy you a cup of coffee from the vending machine and everything...
- iDp0
hahahah yeah looks like its going to happen...just need to iron the particulars and i think im in.
Nac you know I love ya and will miss you like the hooker i could never afford. our boss would have been a little more than pissed if I stood up and let everyone know...but I will give you a big hug when i get back to work
- Nac0
no hugs please.... and don't say that kind of thing in public!
