Are there any definate steps you should take when entering the freelance world??
things like hourly rate - how much is decent, invoicing, is it needed? legal aspects.....is it as easy as doing the work and gettin paid??By the way, the sort of freelance work im talking about is motion graphic work for a tv station,

*Tell the tax man.
*Draw up a contract for your client to sign... in case they try to fuck you over.
*Definitely invoice them.
*Charge them loadsa money.

exactly, must keep track of what you're making, must have them sign something so you don't get fucked, and save around 25% of each check (after making $600) so da man doesn't funk you as well.
it seems like a headache but trust me, it helps.

this question comes up a lot here, it might help you to use the dB and find some stuff. Weekends are slow here

save money for taxes, track everthing, keep records of business expenses, the rate question is tough and gets easier with experience. i've never used binding contracts (even though i should) and have only worked with people that have alot of integrity and i know will not screw me over. i haven't worked for anyone that has had a questionable reputation, in that case i'd surely use a contract.
