all camcorders are not created equally. personally i perfer the Canon brand of cameras. they've been in the game for a long time and concentrate on cameras specifically as oppose to a company like Sony who make everything from discmans to laptops.

this is true, although the university i am going to only has Sony mini-DV's to check out, and to me they work great. never had a problem with sony products: MD player/recorder, CDR's, MD's, Cybershot, car stereo.

never said that sonys were crap, but in my opinion i would choose to work with a Canon camera over a Sony. If you have the funds..Canon GL2 is a great camera!

ive got the panasonic mini dv camera which shoots at 24P.
24 fps is sooo sweet. looks exactly like film

For me build quality is very important when spending £600+ on kit. Sony and panasonic do it best, Canon are too cheap and plasticky for me, unless you go for one of the DM series which are fantastic but pricey.
