How many of you are both at your jobs. It seems that they are blending more all the time.

From what I've seen since the crash, the cheaper the pay, the more respsonsibilities they want.

i rock the design along with php/mysql. why sub out if you can do it yourself for more pay?

It seems that a lot of companies (inhouse work mostly) just don't have enough work for you only to design year round. The other time has to be filled with something else.
My current job I had to learn programming (CF, ASP) and I am currently interviewing for another pretty high paying job that wants someone who can program JSP and XML when the design work gets low.

After the crash I think many of us were forced to wear both hats.

A lot of times when I speak to clients on a freelance basis they all seem to request dynamic features in their sites. They don't even know the difference between dynamic and static. It certaintly gives you a lot more work.

What languages are you guys using?

Flash, PHP, photoshop- and I enjoy the variety. Nothing to do with lack of work or funds, it's more convenience- we don't have to coordinate between three people to make a project. Designing is better when you know the build process, and building is easier when you're receiving assets designed with the build in mind.

Nope.....I'm just a designer. We've got a wicked ActionScripter and we make his head hurt instead of ours. Haha

I'd venture to guess that a lot more designers dabble in development than vice versa.
While I'm capable of basic img manips and layout, I wouldn't dream of calling myself a designer. Conversely, should a designer capable of creating a database schema and doing basic scripting call him/herself a developer?
