How do you feel when you go in
every
single
day?
- jevad0
pretty stoked...but I also know where you are coming from...ideally I would love to make my own times, be my own boss...work from home and not have to be subject to anybody else's silly little rules.....but I'm not quite there yet...and I also like the company of the people I work with...just wish it wasn't a 30 min drive away...still that's not really bad.....what am I trying to say here?

How important is it to feel good about your job?
- heavyarms0
I get bummed out sometimes and feel like I'm trapped and I'm not allowed to leave. I have so many other things (creative and otherwise) I would like to do or need to do during the day but have no chance to. I get bummed out because I have no time to spend with my 4 year old son because I'm always at work, etc.
Some day maybe I'll work for myself but it will be tough because I have a family and need to make a lot of $ and benefits.

relatively important. Although I think that everyone must understand that it is 'work'. It can't all be fun and games.
I work 12 minutes from my apartment (on foot) so if things get bad I just go home for a little while.

horrible, considering I used to be free in Africa. No such thing as a time constraint there. ;)

"How important is it to feel good about your job? "
i would say it was paramount to your personal happiness...we spen so much time at work...why do something you don't enjoy or that bums you out....if you're feeling that way - break out. I did it once and it was the best thing I could have done career-wise and for my personal mental health....

the monotony reminds me of impending death
just another step toward the graveyard.
i prefer things more random. keeps my spirit alive.

I move from job to job until I am happy
- brooke0
My rent is $1400, plus all my other bills. If I quit my job for my own happiness, how will I survive? Lease is up in November, btw.
I'm asking for some serious advice.
- jevad0
well i wasn't saying just quit your job and be done with it all!!
Obviously you have rent and other bills to pay....so why not just try and find another job? I know you're redoing your portfolio right - well finish it and then get your CV done and just call/email/go and see companies that you may be interested in.
If nothing comes of it then stick at your current job until something comes up.

brooke, how is the job industry in NY for web programmer?
About to graduate and a need soon, or will have to starve to death.
- _salisae_0
hmmmm...
what are you thinking? can you get someone to sublet?
- brooke0
Thank you for your thoughts, Jevad. I was hoping you'd say, "Well, Brooke. Go ahead and quit. Be happy. I'LL support you from now on..."
Damnit.

brooke, i thought your gig was right up your alley? you should get your name out in your market for vector illustration and work for yourself eventually.
- magicpatch0
yeh, i thought it was your dream job, whats going on?
- brooke0
Bon, I have what would seem like a dream job, but really the only thing I like about it is the paycheck, and the fact that my boss is uber nice. Before TRU, I worked for myself & did just fine. I actually have a potential freelance gig (that will put a nice chunk of change in my pocket) starting maybe this week, if I get it.
Fuck, I don't know what to do.
- brooke0
Cosmo, dear, I don't know a thing about the web programming industry here in NYC. Although I'm sure there are ample opportunities.
- BonSeff0
do you package design there?
- tara|gee0
brooke maybe they will let u work for them PT?
- toastie0
cosmo, there are plenty of web programming gigs here, the only problem is that there are 50 web programmers for every gig, due to the sheer size of the damn place. So if you got skills, and stay on top of the competition, you'll do ok. But I guess it's the same with every other kind of job,
