i got my first Mac and so far and i'm pretty impressed with it!
it's only an Ibook G3 800 but it'll do for what I'll be using it for.
Anyone know the cheapest place to get the thing wifi'd? Are there any 3rd party apirport cards as apple's seem a bit expensive.
Anyhow, just thought I could get myself a welcome to the mac users world hug

If you want third party wifi for an iBook, it has to be external :-(
Try eBay there is usually reconditioned Airport cards kicking about there. BTW don't get an Airport Extreme card it won't fit!
Welcome to the fold.

Now tell me this. Is there a reason for you having a Mac? I have not seen one person give me proper justification for having a Mac (and please no usibility talk, we all know how to use the ocmputers already so it doesn't matter). In the print world everybody always puches Macs, I use them, but can do all those things with a PC as well, so what gives? Only thing I can see is for sending files to printer, but now you can send PDF for digital printing. Is there any technical reason, such as type being rendered on a Mac that makes it more palatable?

Do you need a reason?

if you want wifi... go with an airport (sans extreme). trust me, all other cards aren't worth it. and they're only $30 now.
and euro... why does he need to prove to you it's useful? he doesn't owe you spit.

Having a closed operating system is a huge reason. If print were done a PC, you would never know what it was going to look like because there are so many 3rd party and after market software that it would be inevitable something would get f*cked up. And for high-end printing, pDFs are just not used man. If you have a lot of pms colors, varnishes, etc, very large documents, you want to send Quark or ID files. It also helps to send those files and not PDFs because they can be adjusted by the printer if need be in a rush way more easily. Not to mention that theMacs look cool and are easier to problem-solve, almost no spyware, the memory management is better, less crashing, etc.

I use both daily... ibook g4 for home use (email, browsing, AIM), and a windows machine at the office- for flash dev and work related stuff. They both have ups and downs, but I do enjoy the OS of the mac moreso than windows, as well as the lack of spyware, virii, and similar shenanigans.

Welcome, brother.

I use both, too. Macs just don't get viruses. Although the whole crashing issue seems non-existant these days. The only things that crash my PC are high-end games. Normal day to day ops don't seem to crash machines anymore.
...except on that machine i'm still running OS 9 on. heh.
