I've checked the PVN archive, I've checked network help, I've checked airport help. I need help!
I just bought a G4 laptop with an airport card and have an airport card in my old G4 tower and I'd like them to talk!
I set up a network they both recognize but I don't see any shared files showing up.
What's the deal?
I think I'm missing something obvious.

Both machines have Panther also.

do you have file sharing turned on in your system preferences?

Thanks for responding!
in os 10.3 I have all file sharing priveleges made.

that's great cpmwww except there is no control panel in os 10.3
Network stuff was much simpler in os 9

something is definitely fucked up because I don't even see (I can see but not use) Computer to Computer Networks.
- fifty500
so you DID remember to click the "start" button to start File Sharing on BOTH computers right?

File sharing is on in the system preferences 'sharing' folder. OS 10.3

i know its a way around but if you havent got too much time to fuck around (like i do most of times) just start both machines up in os9 and work it from there
voila

could it be something to do with the WEP key?
I read somewhere that everything must be set to 128

Seems you have created a network, and turned on File Sharing, but have you gone to 'Go' > 'Connect to Server' to mount the other computers desk on your desktop? (or use the Finders Network icon to mount)

I thought Rendezvous was supposed take care of all this...

Well ribit, you win the prize for tech knowhow. Thanks. In fact, my problem was that I didn't read the fine print that read, "To connect to this computer go to afp://my_computer... etc"
And also the fact that I had to switch my internet connection to the new laptop because now I have three computers called "tom baumgartners computer." Two at home and one at work. Home computers were trying to link with my computer at work. Now I'm live, happy and doing well with my new set-up. Thanks again!

run the 10.3.3 update as well, better networking setup then previous. make sure personal file sharing is clicked then you're good to go.

either get an airport base station (a a linksys wireless router)
if you dont want to go that rout, on your powermac, you have to create a wireless network.
1. Click the wireless icon in the menu and select "Create Network"
2. go into the preference panel and go to sharing. then click the internet tab and tell it to share your connection from your airport to you ethernet.
