  Well ribit, you win the prize for tech knowhow. Thanks. In fact, my problem was that I didn't read the fine print that read, "To connect to this computer go to afp://my_computer... etc"
  And also the fact that I had to switch my internet connection to the new laptop because now I have three computers called "tom baumgartners computer." Two at home and one at work. Home computers were trying to link with my computer at work.

  Now I'm live, happy and doing well with my new set-up. Thanks again!
