now we're talking.
I myself am an amateur futorologist.
The Futurist is a seemingly cheesy, but influential journal:
http://www.wfs.org/futurist.htmThe Long Now Foundation (named by Brian Eno) is building a 10,000 year clock to promote long-term thinking:
http://www.longnow.org/Bukminster-Fuller did alot of work on long-term thinking too.
Oh yeah, check out the world reknowned Harvard Biologist E.O. Wilson's The Future of Life, In which he discusses the biodiversity bottleneck we face in the next 100 years or so (and basically says that we won't survive unless we drastically change the way we're doing things).
And lastly The Edge.org:

Not all of the contributers are futurologists, but many of them are sypathetic to the cause.

You know, from my personal experience, I seem to get more insight and wisdom than from what I get from futurologists by conversating with my own poo.

I have a report here on my desk that came from a talk I went for my Msc. It was on "Ecodynamics : An evolutionary model for planning and futures research". The guy who gave the talk was a futurologist but in the strict planning and civil sense. Its a hefty report on societal metasystems, coevolution, prognostication and quasi ecological evolution of the urban microstructure and lovely stuff like that.
I have no links for the work but Im letting you know that they do exist, futurologists that is. ha ha.
Are you interested in any specific aspect or subject?

I'm going to do my diplom work on this theme. A design expirience on touchscreen.

i'm particularly looking for an 'expert' to talk about the countryside or "non-urban environment" and how they are being effected by technology etc

James Burke
If you think about it, for 20 years we've been producing a new gizmo every ten minutes. I think it's urgently necessary that we sit down now and think about what it is these things are doing to us and how we want to use them. Why don´t you try this james Burke interview.
