i'm going to be doing quite a bit of broadcast design. i know flash really well, but that's really all i know that can be related to broadcast in any way. does anybody have some good resources for me? maybe something that goes over the software used, standards in broadcast design, technicalities, etc... i've been a graphic designer for many years, but broadcast design is completely unfamiliar to me. any help is appreciated. maybe even a good book on the topic?

know after fx inside out, as long as you can rock that program, you'll be fine

umm. toy around a lot with after effects, perhaps get the book(s) from meyers.

Get the Classroom in Book from Adobe. It's very easy to learn and it's not that basic. - the best of both worlds. Using After Effects is a good start. You'll learn fast if you know Photoshop. Any knowledge of 3d will help, but not absolutely necessary, especially at first.

right on. i actually own aftereffects 5.0. my friend works at adobe so i got it for close to nothin. i guess i need to get that program rockin then.
what about for the editing? i work on PC, so what is comparible to Final Cut on PC? i'm guessing Premiere would work best with After Effects. What about doing all the editing in After Effects? Would that not be the best choice? Thanks guys

i usually do my cuts with premier, then bring it in to after fx for specific tweeks. no harm with cutting in after fx
i have to say final cut pro would be my #1 choice

yeah you should really edit the footage in say premiere/final cut, then open it in after effects and play. I had a few lessons in AE when i was at college, but i learnt most of what i know from the VTC training CD's. They're definately worth buying/renting/getting a copy of.
Good luck. :)

ae and premier should do it. pay attention to title and action safe (which is a grid in ae that can be turned on) as well as your colors not getting too florescent, and beyond that rock it! ae is basically flash with filters.....

rad. thanks for the advice man

After effects is a compositing app not an editing app. Final cut/ Premiere are. Although you can edit some what in After Effects, you would be saving yourself a world of hurt if you edited on FCP or Premiere.

Tools are only a part of the job. Any good resources for project approach and composition?
In other words, making the shit pro.
