saw it tonight--- full of plot holes, bad dialog, and inconsistencies, nevertheless it was brilliant!
this is one for all the gore/zombie fans out there.
HOLLAH!

It looks like Resident Evil to be honest...!!

Unnecessary remake of a classic. Wait, that's THE trend nowadays... And why zombies gotta be as fast as Ben Johnson after 28 Days Later? In Danny Boyle's movie they weren't living dead but people infected with pure rage, so it kinda had a logic behind, but living dead ARE slow. Geez, they're fucking dead! :P Mr. Lucio Fulci, where are you?! Thx God Romero is going to shoot another zombie flick. I only hope it is as good as Day Of The Dead or the original Dawn Of The Dead itself...

I agree this movie absolutely sucked. It stole sooooo much from 28 days later it sickened me and made me feel like america couldn't make an original zombie movie ever again. The plot holes were herrrendous, the soundtrack primarily sucked exception being the dick cheese song. But playing the Down with the Sickness song twice in a movie is a complete movie killer as it is. Bleah, I still want my money back. IT ruined the idea of the original completely.

Two remakes and two stinkers:
(TTCM and DOTD)"When Hollywood has no more original ideas the remakes shall invade the googleplexes"
I vow never to see either.

Hmm, its not out in Ireland yet so I cant really form an opinion. But... it cant really steal from 28 days later can it? I mean, I liked 28 days later but Danny Boyle just ripped off the best bits from Romeros 3 original zombie flicks, added a virus and zombies that could sprint.
You cant really accuse a remake of ripping off a film that is already ripping off the original films can you?
Im confused now.

Saw it last night and I have to agree. Its just a little to much like 28 days later for me.
- IamFerris0
Yes you can. It's a rip off of a rip off. And it could go on and on... A rip off of a rip off of a rip off... But this has nothing to do with 'stealing' ideas. Who does not 'steal' ideas after all? Even the greatest artists do... The deal is if you're able to put those 'stolen' ideas together with talent, a good rhythm, an adequate sense of the atmosphere (being this a very important thing in horror films)... That's why 28 Days Later works. Besides ripping this or that off, the movie shows talent.

I wanna see it -- i love the original dawn of the dead, so i'm at least glad it's also based in an abandoned mall... anyway -- the zombies in the original weren't sleepwalkers...
its funny to see how many people think its a rip from 28 days and resident evil... :)

like i said, if you like good gore, this is for you.
and when are people going to get over the whole "fast zombie" thing? let's face it, slow zombies just aren't scary anymore.

It's a simple fact of life nowadays that whatever comes out of the UK that's good has to be redone & copied by the US.
Why can't they embrace us?
Perhaps they think they speak a different language.
Anyhoo I thought the movie was Hollywood brilliance - emphasis on the word Hollywood. They don't need to waste any time explaining things - they know we already saw 28 Days Later!

Addendum...
I know that 28 Days Later is not totally original - it's a zombie movie for christakes!
The funny thing is the timing of this new one.
I think 28 Days freaked me out simply because it was set in London (my home town) and to see it completely f**ked up was a sight to behold.
Funny, cause I was talking to my American friends and they thought it wasn't that scary...
"Have you been to London" I asked, "No" they said", we'll I said, "visit the place and then you will see the brilliance of the film, it wasn't set in Wichita, Kansas where there's f**k all people there".
Whatever.

so funny

28 Days later combined very great elements from the classic films, and it wasn't really a zombie film as much as it was a apocalypse utter devastation type of film. (excellent film btw.), but what the new DotD did was take specific shots, completely ripped their title sequence, and shite on the old DotD concept. I don't like title sequence theft, honestly. Did I mention the writer wrote Scooby Doo!? C'mon... lol. The only similarity is the mall - to the original. I wish they'd have had bandits like in the original as well. Argh..... just shite.

im going to this in an hour, i really dont think it will capture the original idea of the first.
and slow zombies are awesome. the fact that everything is so slow and desolate but you can never get away from it is what makes it good!
- atomica0
agreed idsgn, don't keep your hopes up, it is... just another mid 90s feeling zombie movie.

I loved it. The gore was almost artistic at some points. I agree, it was Rage (28 days later) comes to America. Just imagine that somehow the virus spread overseas.
I also liked the fact that they didn't spend much time explaining the outbreak but rather focusing on ways of surviving and that's real.
I've got to see it again, but this was the first Hollywood film that I've enjoyed in a while. For once I couldn't predict the scenes before they took place.
- idsgn0
they should have just made this its own movie and slapped a different title on it

Looks too much like one of last year's best movies, 28 Days Later.

I want gore and lots of it.
I actually wrote my thesis on the Romero zombie trilogy and how they reflected society etc etc. 28 days later was really good because it was well directed and the scenes of a deserted London were incredibly freaky and unsettling but, despite the fast zombies which I liked, it took wholesale from the Romero movies.
28 days later did not come first, it rippd off several American films and some of the Italian 'Spaghetti Horrors' like Zombie Flesh Eaters (I think they had fast zombies too).
I still cant wait till it comes out but in a car crash kinda way, that horrible dont wanna look but compelled anyway feeling.
It could be pants if there's no bandits though.
