Work just dished me out a new Dual 1.8 G5. .... Its amazing how much faster it is than the G4..

I just took delivery of a DP 2Ghz with 3.5Gb ram, replaces a G4 350Mhz with 1Ghz of ram. Huge huge difference, it's flying :)

I would hope it's faster dsltb. You spent more on RAM on the new machine than you probably did for the entire old machine.

£350 for all that RAM, well worth it. Just slightly over the second-hand value of the G4.

i just got a dual 1.8 with 1.5 gig RAM and a 20'' cinema display.
a whole lot faster than my dual 500 g4 with 640 megs.
Yet it still has these annoying freezes with explorer, e-mail and Illustrator where you see the rainbow cloc for a long time. Panther crashes apps a whole lot more than Jaguar did.
Safari just is so slow it's not usable.I'd expect a bit more for what I paid.

sounds like you got a lemon, laurus. That or you have something corrupting your machine.
I'd clean it off and start fresh if I were you.

no doubt about it - i don't touch explorer unless i have to. safari is much much faster. i swear microsoft built explorer on the mac to suck

RAM for my Dual 2.0 G5 cost about (3gigs, in 3 modules) was about 850 USD dollars.
You got a good deal.

as a freelancer, i've worked on three different ones now. They all sucked. They have ram problems(apple tech guy confirmed this) and if you do alot of ram previews in after effects it steals ram from the OS and back and forth and you start feeling like your on a old G3. I usually have to restart3-5 times a day. I love macs, so this breaks my heart.

me too, not impressed, and with every whatever stupid animal name os upgrade, the whole damn thing seems to run slower and slower. i suspect they want you to buy a faster machine every six month.
