lilbabyleg,
My POV is coming from the level of the common people. Young men entered the armed forces with the intent of helping other people.
In response, most of the Allied countries benefited financially from the WWII. That's how it works when you win.

common people always fall for the okie doke... what do they really get out of it? a loaf of bread and a n ass whoopin.

people tend to forget, that without russia, the ww2 against germany wouldn't have been won... they did most of the dirty work. and anyway, whilst the us were a great country for quite a while, they seem to have completely lost the plot these days...

perhaps not coincidentally russia and the us came out as the supepowers of the world.

My grandfater "fell for it", the GI Bill paid for his education, he became a very successfull lawyer, retired at 50 and bought a 2.5 million dollar home on a lake in Northern Michigan.

count me in! where shall we kick ass?

That's what you're failing to understand. It wasn't a reason to go to war. It was the character of the people involved, they were great people willing to risk their lives. These days pessimism and fear masked with hyper-nationalism are the prevalent ways of reacting. I won't disagree that our government is at it's worst either.

catchy tune though. I mean, you gotta admit. now in all our heads we are singin it.

man when you feel like your country and livelyhood are at stake you fight. no offense there's nothing special about what the people in the US did in WW2. they repsonded to a fear of losing their property. it's doesn't make us any greater than anyone else fighting for their property or rights. there were backroom deals to get the US involved. and there's a lot of evidence that pearl harbor was allowed to happen...
there's a reason we no longer have the draft. it got to hard to convince the common people that these colonialist missions were response to threats. now we have a paid military for this shit.

I think you guys are failing to understand that the mentality of the USA is so infuriating to the rest of the world. Sure the USA is a successful economy based on militaristic gain from WW2 (ie US companies rebuilding Europe and SE Asia) as well as post war nuclear paranoia (the growth of the Defense industry in apparent "peaceful" times) and that yes the US gives aid to many countries around the world and that you have the "best democarcy in the world" (florida ballot debacle) and that you want the world to share it (invasions of most of central america, annexing of Costa Rica, CIA involvement in the deaths of over 4 million people in South America during the Cold War) so i guess we are a little envious of your success as a nation in the ability to be so rich. But the problem we have is that you and your government have no respect for human life - the US people as well as the rest of the world. The USA has a "working poor" that is people who work full time (upwards of 45 hours a week) but earn below the poverty line (best guess at that value is what someone would recieve on the lowest social security payment) who make up nearly 20% of your working population. you have no health care for people without private insurance and are so afraid of competition from other economies your government has some of the most tariff heavy import laws in the world - yet you push your "free market" ideals to the rest of the world
so yeah maybe other countries get a little anti-american from time to time but when you are constantly told by americans how great their country is and how much better yours would be if you'd just bend over and let the US run your economy - but you can't spell the name of our respective countries, let alone name the capital or the head of state you are trying to negotiate/depose can you really blame us?
now that all said i think the US has some really great things about it, with some incredibly creative minds coming out of it, so it all aint that bad
- mrdobolina0
nice stereotype of ALL americans.
- sexypixel0
"is that you and your government have no respect for human life "
thats a bit harsh
- mrdobolina0
thats what Im talking about.

your country has the same population as my state, and I still could refrain from making such gross generalizations.
you happen to be talking about over 280 million people, homie.
- sexypixel0
Australia sent troops off to iraq also, and the polls showed support for it, does that mean all aussies are war mongering barbarians????
- mrdobolina0
yes, sexypixel it does hahaha, when do the jams start?
- melk0
actually polls were against it even during the conflict.
i didn't mean to generalise about the US population but my points are reasonably valid and do show some of the reasons why people can get anti-american, a little firebrand maybe.
