is it lame to have the word "design" in your URL?
such as "limpdickdesign.com" or such?
does that come off as amateurish these days?

Interesting question. Seems like nowadays the 'cool thing' to do, among other things, is leaving the default colors for the visited and new links. And of course, even if your website has to do with design, using that word in the URL sounds childish and newbish... And not really 'modern' or 'in' ;D

sure it's a trend to have offbeat URLs, however most URLs are taken unless you've made up some weird name.
if you're going for longevity and are serious about design, i don't think using the word 'design' is cliche or lame at all, it's specific to what your discipline is.
if you want a URL that is something all crazy and shit then go for it, but it might get old quick, that's what trends do.

i have something against the word pixel in your url, that's more of a trend i guess
- sauerbraten0
pixel, lab, studios, collective, anything replacing a letter phonetically, ie; S=Z, C=K, as in designs=designz, ugh.
- aydee0
mmm, i guess it's kind of functional to have it in your title. Would help alot of people recognize the content of your site from search engines etc, cos lets face it, names of design companies can be a bit obscure at the best of times!

all depends on the context, my site has pixel in the title but i think that in its previous incarnations its context was very apt, but then i changed it to try and get some safe work and made it shit and now it sucks and having pixel in the title just makes it suck more, so i think it all depends on the context of the site and the other words its associated with.
p.s. i have a job now so i am going to make my site interesting in relation to its name again.

Naming a rabbit "design" that's stupid so give the things a correct name. DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE NAME DESIGN
- sexypixel0
i recomend registering your name as your url. www.firstnamelastname.com
safe as houses and you can use design in the head of you index page
ie. fisrtname lastname webdesign
alot of client are inpressed when asking for my portfolio and i just give them my name .com . easy to remember also
- sexypixel0
clients arent so impressed with my spelliing tho

my name is Evin Lewis Wolverton
1 in 200 people can spell it right just be me pronouncing it. Especially the first name.
maybe E.L. Wolverton?
i think i'd really just like to give my design efforts some sort of catchy moniker--avoiding "z" and "k" misusage, of course
- jg_20
the name is not so important. i think.
for example, the name of my website sux... and unfortunately my website sux too
- JazX0
no because your target audience are a bunch of dimwits anyway 99% of the time.
- paulrand0
nobody gives a shit but other designers, and even they don't give a shit

paulrand,
I love names, granted there are a lot of bad names out there (including mine)... but I love to read the b.s. behind how someone came up with their name.
For example, i wanted something personal... My real name is dan marino (for those who live outside the states, he was a famous football player). needless to say, I couldn't get danmarino.com nor did I want it. So I made up my current name based on letters of my name to keep it personal.
As for design in the name, I don't think it is a bad think to have a little explanation in your url. Sometimes it is good for a user to see "something design" in a link so they know where they are going...
