I know he's crass and juvenile, but I find it highly disturbing that Clear Channel has yanked Howard Stern from six markets, citing "vulgarity and indecency". Stern's been vulgar and indecent for more than twenty years, but in recent weeks, he's come out pretty hard against the Bush administration and for Kerry. And CC's ties to the right wing are clearly demonstrated (i.e. blacklisting the Dixie Chix & their pro-war rallies)

Blame Janet.

are you kidding
?controversy equals cash.
what, to the outside world, seems like a bad thing for Stern, in the end, will be extremly beneficial to him.
- gfro0
Hopefully it will help him find an outlet that will allow him to be uncensored. Satellite Radio Perhaps, I'd subscribe.

Stern rules. I hope he goes to satellite. xm or the other one whatever is cheaper.
STERN = GOD :)

FUCK clear channel and their right-wing monopolising asses

howard stern is nothing but a disgusting shock jock. there was nothing of value in any of his shows. I am not for any censorship, but we are better off without him on the air. I choose to protest by not listening to radio any more, but really these guys have gone too far. I dont want to hear their crap on my rock stations, I just want tunes!

Seems very stupid. Clear Channel knew that Stern's show was the way it is, there's obviously some kind of oversight of it, and he's been fined by the FCC dozens of times before.
I'd love to know everything that Clear Channel owns, and what they broadcast that is also edgy and crass.

what exactly was said...and in what context?
I can't exactly make out the details when it's described so cryptically in the mainstream media.

Supes, you ignorant slut.
(remember when SNL was offensive)
I'm glad you were able to protest by not listening. That's exactly what anyone who is offended by this or any broadcast on radio or television should do. I find it very strange that Clear Channel up until the recent Janet incident had no problem making tons of cash off of this "filth".
Nice scooter.

supes, could you sound anymore uptight?

They probably got tired of payig for defense in all the FCC law suits.

As soon as I read this thread, I went to clearchannel.com where they have a press release on their main page about their decision to pull Stern.. So I downloaded the release, and I'll be damned if at the very top it doesn't have the following information:

i love how those think this kind of action is acceptable because they don't like stern's program. come on people that is completely besides the point. potty humor isn't dangerous and i never heard a huge outcry to get rid of it.
two days ago i went to an awesome hiphop show featuring Sage Francis. tour name: Fuck Clear Channel. Check it out if it is headed your way

"The Telecommunications Act of 1996, signed into law by Bill Clinton, introduced a measure that is in many similar to the lifting of the 35 percent television ownership cap. Clear Channel and other radio conglomerates have been able to grow at an unprecedented pace after the act removed the provision that limited the number of stations that one company could own to 28 nationwide. Clear Channel now owns over 1,200 stations in addition to other operations throughout the music production industry."
know the facts . . .

Supes, whether one listens to Stern or not is not the real issue, but the taking away of our rights is, if someone doesn't want to listen to something, or finds in inappropriate at times "like around children" we all have the choice to change the channel. the big picture is our rights are being taken away, last week 6 cities lost their right to listen to stern, now Stern is talking about being fired altogether. This year maybe the stern show gets cut, maybe next year something less provocative gets cut and so on.

In my opinion, the Bush administration that is allowing the FCC to continue with its moral attack on Stern, is seriously underestimating the amount of support Stern has throughout the country. He's not the #1 radio show for no reason.
