Magazine that is. Im doing an ad for Billboard magazine. Like a dumbass I started creating it at 300 dpi CMYK. Then I read the requirements and it says they need the ad done at 2400 dpi in Adobe PDF format. Is this right I tried resizineg my document to 2400 dpi, the text is fine but of course the images look like ass and I don't have images large enough to use for this size of an ad. Does that sound right 2400 dpi??

Thats it Im uploading the pdf they gave me so you can see it.

they DO make films at 2400 dpi...
so they could be serious.
unfortunatly i am on dial-up here, so I cannot check your .pdf.
usually 300 dpi is ok for regular magazines, so just try to blow it up, it can't be that bad when printed..
unless they use it for REAL billboards ofcourse!

Don't resize your doc to 2400 dpi! that is 2400 printer's dots per inch.
PDF is my favorite means of media. I save everything I can in PDF, and it seems a lot of companies are opting for it.
As far as your art, you are totally fine at 300 dpi for the document you are creating in Illustrator, photoshop or whatever. Even 266 dpi is safe. The 2400 dpi resolution they required is in case you use Adobe distiller in order to submitt your file that way (pdf format). From the distiler menu Settings: Job Options: Hi-Res set to 2400 dpi (that is 2400 on a printer readings as oposed to screen reading). You need PDF distiller to see this option, I don't think you can get it from saving the file off illustrator, quark or photoshop.

I have distiller, but the client os only paying me so much. I figured it out. YOur right that is the printer dpi not for screen resolution. It needs to be at 300 dpi. They would prefer it in pdf format but I cannot save pdf from Photoshop so fuck it. He will have to pay the extra charge of $20 Billboard charges you if your ad is psd format. I don't have the time unless he pays me more to do the whole distiller to pdf crap. Thanks for the response SoulFly i was able to talk to the Magazine today and sound like i knew what I was talking about. lol U Rock!

yeah that's a spec for bitmap and line art type of stuff - not raster photos/imagery.
