CBS should just quit whilst they are ahead. Its all Ted Turners fault!
- Mimio0
I always thought of NSync as white-exploitation.
- Gorbie0
How ya!
- spiff0
Hey all of us at NT should have a fantasy football team that'd be cool.
- North_20
No it's like that in the UK too.

cant you show breasts on tv and in the tabloids in the UK though?
in the US too much cleavage sends the soccer moms of american into an uproar. i wonder if people in countries that are behind the rest of society that still frolick naked frown upon wearing too much tshirt. national geographic style
- Gorbie0
why outkast?
why not the washington redskins?
- Mimio0
They should cut Andre some slack, they were wearing lawn jockey outfits on SNL a couple months ago.

this is all in the day & age that if something COULD be taken offensively then it will be by someone, particularly someone hoping to make a profit. Then it will spread like wildfire and thousands of other will feel like they "should" be offended by it, thus sparking a lawsuit.
I saw the outkast performance as celebrating native americans rather than exploiting them. Some people are just way too sensitive.

Yeah, but only after the watershed[9:30pm] a flash of breast before then and points of view [BBC tv show] would have an hour special, as for the tits in the newspapers, they are generally read by builders and tradesmen so they have there place. Look I've just stereotyped tradesmen call the cops!!
We are still pretty shit when it comes to censorship, for example something about mary was on last week and when Ben stiller has the frank & beans moment, his sack caught in the zipper was not shown once!!

what's funny is that if it had been a white group (not necessarily american) that did the same type of thing, only they did a black face thing with tribal drums and tribal dancing you guys would be talking about it alot differently. It just "seems" okay because native americans aren't as outspoken and prevalent in our society. I'd hardly call what andre did a celebration of their culture. Don't get me wrong, I like outkast, but they made the wrong decision on that preformance.

i guess the same thing would happen here with Maori, if a performance was seen as exploiting Maori culture. Esp if none of the performers were Maori. (native indian in theis case)
still think they are going over board on it tho

This was a well documented story last year in the UK...
A Christian church in a predominantly Asian part of a town was asked by the local council to remove all it's advertising of the annual carol singing service, due to the fact that it would bring offence and dis-respect to the Asians who livedin close proximity.
Although spokes person for the Asian community said that the advertising of the service wouldn't be seen in there eyes as racism nor would they take offence.
So who the fuck at the council thought up the idea that it would be racist?
Far too sensitive.

people should stop taking themselves so seriously
geeze
- k0na_an0k0
then if that is so offensive, these should be as well...
1) blue man group
-- all bald men in america should be ourtraged at the fact that these men are obvious mutes made out to be some kind of circus act in which they are made to beat drums and catch marshmellows in their mouths like some kind of trained monkey.(also, trained monkeys should be outraged)
2) the Texans NFL football team
-- how DARE they call themselves texans implying some kind of stereotypical person. i don't see a team in illinois called the illinoisans. the kind people of texas should be oh so pissed.3) american airlines
-- what... they don't fly to europe? asia? why the hell aren't they called the tree hugging whale kissing WORLD airlines? sons a bitches is what i say. if i were in paraguay i'd be off the rocker pissed.4) chicago blackhawks.
-- if i were a hawk i'd be gauging out every bastards eyes in the chicgaoland area. EVERYONE knows hawks are brown! oh, and the american indians should be pissed cause they are brown too... not black... nor are they hawks.5) the lakers
-- california should revolt. it's not a damn lake... it's an ocean. who are the bigwhigs of cali trying to kid? they are degrading the folks in cali by not calling them the oceaners. the ocean should also be pissed off cause it's way bigger than a lake.ya know what. people need to calm the fuck down and stop taking things so seriously. not once during that performace did it even cross my mind that this was such a bad thing. but then again i am a stupid cracka who's been dishing out many lists of lies whilst keeping the brothas down.

said it before and i'll say it again, if it was white guys in black face doing a tribal dance you guys would have a whole different opinion on it. we're talking about different cultures not baldies or birds. besides, i think it's up to the people whose culture is being made light of to decide if they should be offended, the rest of the world doesn't need to decide for them.

I think this dialogue is a great example of exactly what the NACC are so upset about. It's called ignorance. Ignorance to the fact that other cultures exist outside of your own. It has nothing to do with taking things seriously or showing nipples on television. It's about being respectful of traditions that don't belong to your cultural heritage. I'm disappointed that such a talented group of musicains used a hugely public forum such as the grammies to perpetuate this disrepect and ignornace. As far as the earlier comment about the redskins, with a little research you would find that Native Americans and other activists have been fighting for ages to get those offensive team names changed.
People who earned the respect of the public through art need to be smarter then this.
- tfs__mag0
right on goodgirl, good to see someone shares my viewpoint on this.
- kpl0
there's a line between racial or cultural insensitivity and racism. this is insensitive. It's ignorance.
but it's not racist. and anyone that says it is needs an ass-whooping.
