I use a PB 500Mhz, it is OK not the best,
the bad part is the video card. since it is just an ATA Rage 128. Mac OS X uses Quartz Heavily which transfers all GUI processing through the graphics card, but you need at least a 16 Mb Graphics card, a rage 128 only has 8MB so things seem slow at times, if you can i would try to step it up to a machine with a real 3D Graphics card. like an Nvidia or ATI Radeon.
my problem is i used to work on a Dual 2Ghz G5 at work but when i lost my job all I own is a Powerbook 500Mhz
HUGE difference

Re: The G4 1.25 GHz...
I'm running a Powerbook G4 1GHz, and it runs like a champ. It's about 8 months old now. I run the entire Adobe CS suite, Macromedia MX 2004 suite, and Maya with no problems. If you've got the funds, definitely go for it. Get the best you can for the money you've got.
