hi all, i know this is a long shot, but... i remember seeing somewhere a link to a quicktime movie where this bloke was slagging of macs and listing all its quirks and indiosyncratic things, but he did it in a real funny way. does anybody know what i mean or where this link is, or shall i get my coat.

the ignorant fool...

since I have OSX 10.3.2 my mac didn't even crash once! Seriously!

the bloke in that video's a fucking twat

wicked guys, cheers for that. i've got nothing against macs myself, but being a web designer i have to work on a pc (because the majority of users use pcs). the other designer here works on a mac, so i think he'ld like this.

You don't have to work on a PC just because the users use them... just get a test machine.
Do TV producers create their work on television sets?
- paulrand0
hee hee

actually, sadly, you do. in corporate design, unless the company is willing to buy a second "test" computer for you, as well as hire a network admin that's both PC and Mac-savvy, designers are stuck on PCs.
- ribit0
Well, yes corporate policies do suck. I waited 4 years for General Motors Design to get me Photoshop. (We usedall the 3D and VR stuff, but they didnt understand graphics at all) After I left the company I heard they finaly got Photoshop..woohoo.
But if you run your own show..it isnt that hard or expensive. I got a LaCie Ethernet Disk to use as backup and as a workgroup server for our small team. It's turning out to also be a great test machine for testing on Explorer 6 on XP....
...and I can connect to it remotely using the (free!) Microsoft Remote Desktop, so I can run a Windows session (at pretty good speed) from a cafe (my second office) or anywhere. Good value.

will you guys quit calling that guy a twat? everything he's saying is true, whether you want to admit it or not. and big deal your mac hasn't crashed since you upgraded to mac osx 10.2.012838.2 or whatever the hell it was. XP has crashed my computer 1 time in almost 2 years and it was due to a video card conflict. one of the os9 machines here locked up 10 times on friday, and the guy next to me is constantly slapping his desk (he does that when OSX freezes up on him.) photoshop runs better on my PC than any OSX machine. Flash runs at least twice as fast on my PC than any Mac in our office (we have about 10 macs and about 10 pcs.) our OSX file server is constantly screwing up the mac users' files. the pcs handle the files just fine. one time something happened to the server and we lost all the "resource forks" or something like that. now a bunch of the files (especially fonts) are screwed up on a mac.
oh and a guy i know who is quite wealthy bought a new G5 setup with dual cinema displays and all the other goodies. the thing crashes all the time.
believe it or not, i'm not a mac hater. i hate mac-user arrogance and i'll defend windows machines if they're being picked on.

Well I didn't call him a twat...

My Macs work just fine thanks, and that guy is still a twat (or just very unlucky). Sounds like he's talking about a PC to me, but then I don't use 'em so what would I know.

hmmm - i've never had a problem with my mac - i own pc's and macs - i can do much more with my mac than i can a pc - my pc is always a hater of any audio program i throw at it :( - i don't know who's the real winner - but for what i do (audio) my mac doesn't even blink - no matter what i throw at it - my pc... well... if only the skies were as blue as my monitor (sigh)

"99% of products are shit. Brand allegiances are for fucking losers"
sounds a little steep, but i'll subscribe to your magazine.
also, it's funny how our favorite os hasn't crashed since 1984, but the out of box os we all got in last week, the one we all loathe, just won't even start up. *all hail our favorite os!*

computers crash.. its a part of life..
And by the way.. that guy is a twat, not because he hates macs. He's just a twat b/c I say so. And he looks homosexual
- lowimpakt0
"And he looks homosexual"
real smooth there mr. blend
- abstrakt0
it's strange how many anti-homosexual posts i see here. these people must not work in design in the real world or something.

I think the video is hilarious. Mostly because I've gone through all the same problems he has when I first started using a mac on a regular basis after 8 years on a PC. And no, I'm not saying macs are any worse than PCs. Both are great if you know what you're doing with them.
- mitsu0
that's true. generally, mac users aren't very comfortable with pc's when they use them... they feel very counter-intuitive because it's not what they are used to. same with pc users on macs. hell, there's still days when i fire up my powerbook and think... 'hmmm... pretty', and then shut it off and get to work on my pc.
