their shit sells like hot cakes, mrlerone, they must be doing something right. I would wager only large-scale marketing firms have a better clientelle.
- mrlerone0
Good for you. Live with it for the time being.
When the (internet) revolution comes you'll be the first against the (fire)wall, and the user interface of those rifles firing squads use is quite straighforward.
Maybe you can pack your coat with those books on Actionscripting and Java... they're quite thick and could save your life?
- mrlerone0
That's true. If something sells well it must be ultimately good. That's why the music charts are full of wonderouslly entertaining songs, and I cannot leave my telelvision at night for worry of losing out on fantastic programming.
Popular things should never be knocked.
Loads of people liked Hitler for a brief period of time.
And lots of people smoke.
Racism and Homophobia is rife in the workforce. LOADS of people love that stuff. I was thinking that there was something wrong with that... but now *I* realise that I was wrong.

now now... don't be a prick...
whats all this internet revolution about then?
- JamesEngage0
surely if everyone was as alternative as you obviously seem to be... you wouldn't be alternative... hmm?

the matrix
- mrlerone0
I'm not *alternative*...
Look at everything that's successful on the internet. Well designed systems that function as uers would want. Google, Amazon, BBC News Online, countless Blogsites. They're hardly underground successes.
Although a Flashy portfolio site mightattract attention from initial viewing, revisiting it always eems tiresome. I'd like to post a new thread asking if anyone is a frequent visitor to a Flash site. On a 56K modem. You'd be pressed to find a designer of Flash sites who is.
The revolution I talk of is the one where people grow sick of extravance for extraagances sake. When the internet is truly a part of everyday life, replacing a lot of real world activities, people won't stand about waiting for load time to see a transition that looks like it should be on the Alien DVD menu before booking their train tickets or downloading their music.
Ultimately, useability will be a prerequisite for design of a human facing interface, not a luxury.
Don't mean to sound too much like a prick. I always mention Hitler in discussion of the the average person not being stupid or easily led, as it' quite an obvious one. I apologise.

I think you need to calm down, mrlerone. Comparing 2advanced to hitler...sheesh, you're embarrassing yourself.
People like their work. People pay for their work. People like the end result.
This isn't a fucking art movement. This is business. Get it straight in your head.
Oh, and "When the (internet) revolution comes you'll be the first against the (fire)wall"
Can I use that again? I find it hilarious! It's like my grandpa read wired and wanted to make a statement about it all.
- mrlerone0
Glad you were amused. You can have that one for free.
I know design isn't Art. I can't see how you could read anything I've said and interpreted it as something about Art.
I've mentioned the need for useability and a consideration of users. I've said that illustrator designers needlessly decorate sites with whizzy lines. I've discussed the issue as a matter of business.
If you're argument is that "you're thinking about it too much man, it's not art dude", then I'm very sorry if my argument went over your head, but don't try to insult me by implying I was confusing this complex subject with subjective works of art.
I know that *this* is business. I just think that putting a praising link to a shit site, when our business is design, is like having a business site and putting a link to a shit business?
Apologies again if anyone thinks I'm a prick, but I really *do* believe I have a point to make. It's all very well filling up these messageboards with links to Flash wankathons, but someone should actually try discussing importnat issues as well.

I agree with many of those points, mrlerone. BUT...You know, a lot of people happen to like flash. Many, in fact, on NT.
I'll state what you already know: It's not technology that makes design, it's the designer.
- nessdog0
"i think you need to calm down, mrlerone. Comparing 2advanced to hitler...sheesh, you're embarrassing yourself."
No, he's not embarrassing himself. He's simply making comparisons so as to help any intellectually challenged individuals understand his opinion.
"I'll state what you already know: It's not technology that makes design, it's the designer."
so you agree with mrlerone then? I'm lost.
- mrlerone0
Thanks.
and sorry for being rude.
- mrlerone0
I'm not lost!
I'm fine!
Thanks for agreeing with me whoever did, and sorry to everyone I offended by mentioning Hitler!
Sorry sorry.
I have to work now. Nice to meet you all though. This is good fun!
I need lunch.
- fate0
nessdog, naw, that was to address his flash point.
- nessdog0
reeto.
- meok0
Dont take design so seriously. 2A is a successful *design company and they deserve it. The end.
- mrlerone0
Now I'm all angry again.
- meok0
mrlerone. I was once a design dickhead too. But I grew up, worked in the industry and realise I was wrong. Goodluck with that.
- nessdog0
ignore this thread and read the nipples thread instead... it'll calm you down :).
- mrlerone0
I was opinionated at college, and now I am opinionated in industry. Don't try to patronise me. Maybe you work in the shit end of the industry?
Just a thought.
I wont make the mistakes you made.
What is this *grew up* thing that's being thrown around by only the most childish of posters?
Is that some kind of coverall for *I dont understand, and I gave up trying*?
