the point here is that this guy must surely be certified insane but oh no, they deemed him sane to stand trial - now seriously, do they seriously expect me to believe that posting an ad for people to be slaughtered and then actually going through with it and sharing a mans cock for lunch before videoing his killing and eating him is the actions of a sane man?!?!

true. that's why the whole case is pretty much difficult. but law and punishment is a reflection / reaction of society's norms and values, so basically always following culture, hence the fact that cannibalism can't be found in law. but which is no reason to deny it or do nothing with that fact. worst case scenario (really over exaggerated): murderes eat the evidence and claim the person wanted to die.

He wasn;t on trial for being insane. Infact, he never said he was insane...sanity has nothing to do with this.
The german law governing 'assited suicides', and the intent with which this is/was done, was that he was tried, and ultimately found guilty of.

Well, the same system that found him guilty, found him sane enough to stand trial.
As I said, his sanity was never an issue in this case. He didn't try to mount any defence based upon his sanity.
