do i need a faster G5 to be happy running Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio and occasional Final CUt & Aftereffects on OSX Panther? there's a considerable cost difference and i'm so not technical...

i gotta dual 2 gigahertz. photoshop cs opens in 2 secs no joke
- jox0
well ikben - you know what they say about people whose programs open fast, right?
- R3SP3CT0
the fact that your dual gig is faster doesn't really help me...

No Get a G5 1.8. its a little bit more cash but a mush better computer.
just look at the Bus speed and RAM amount.
The G5 1.6 look like a hack G4 if you ask me.?

I was told to get the middle choice or 3rd techtv said someting about the first one not being the same as the other ones not just clock speed.

agreed. i got a 1.8 dual, worth every penny. personally, i would not get anything less. apple has a overstock of refurbished 2duals, a sign of updates to come. if you can wait a few weeks, something is bound to get updated.....

im a minute man jox. the ladies dont even feel a thing :)

The key to the real boost in speed with the G5 is the dual processor, when it was tested as a single is was considerably slower than the full bore Xeon.....
so yes if you got a dual 1.8 you would see a drastically faster machine than the 1.6, which is still a good solid machine.

so does anyone got a 1.6 G5?
- ********0
youre really stuck on this 1.6 thing aint ya? listen to us, go for a dual or just hang tight, some updates should be coming. as far as the refurbs, check the apple store or call one.

Dual 1.8s and don't look back. You seem to be waiting on that one person to push you over the fence. Just get the 1.8s. When you need that extra boost, you'll be glad you have it to spare.

Go for Dual.
Seriously.I've got a dual 867 G4 and it runs Panther and the CS and FLash MX 2004 great.
However, I am going to get a G5 eventually just cause, you know . . . it's a G5.

ok, here's the skinny:
the 1.6 comes with 256mb RAM, 80GB HD and can be expanded to 4Gb of Ram.
the Dual 1.8 comes with 512MB of Ram, 160GB HD, and can be expanded to 8GB of RAM. it's well worth the difference in price of the 1.6.
GO WITH THE DUAL 1.8, you won't regret it. i love my dual 2GHZ. that's no bullshit on PS starting up so quick. you should see how well Maya runs on these things.

if you can afford it, go the dual 1.8. you are using some pretty power hungry apps.
you lucky bastard.
