wow... i'm a brotha, and i dont speak ebonics. i'm university educated and i dont think its necessary to sound like a punk irregardless of race. whatever you look like, it sounds ghetto.
if you arent a brotha, it sounds more ghetto, like you're a wanna be brotha. and likely they are. if you are a brotha and speaking ebonics, its just pushing our culture back to making everyone think we are all criminals.
anyway you slice it, its a reflection of how being black is now the new white... finally being me is popular... how funny is that.
not many white cats would actually speak that way infront of other black people... that shit will get you knocked out.
Rastafari.

does saying 'Yo' and 'mad' count?

Cheers Carty that's a great and unique insight. A much needed perspective.

Well said Carty!
Where I'm from you can get slapped for acting like a firstclass retard. Whether you're white, brown or black.
Some people need to cut down on the MTV watching! Snoop Dogg and Co. do not represent black people or real hip hop...
This is not a black thing this is a 'stupid, young, easy influenced kids, watching fools being ignorant' thing.

we always did it to make fun of hip hop subculture.
i'm pretty sure we knew it wasn't making us cool.

It's a sad thing indeed that the music has changed so drastically...
Thanks to all the bling bling, semi-naked females and the recent gun trend, people think it's all about that...

I'd say that hip hop culture has been pretty much diluted into baby food and spoon fed to target markets.

As everything else, Mal. As soon as something begins to sell, there is always a swarm of marketing whores ready to dissect and sell it to its 'target audience'. Look at punk, look at any revolutionary movement in the recent years. First everyone looks at it crosseyed, then a bunch of kids think it's cool, and sure enough, someone goes: WE CAN SELL IT BACK TO THEM AND NOONE GETS HURT!
