What started out to be a swedish-man-whore (not me) is now ending in total disaster in way of grape-jelly-toss-nudism.

get a mac.
even the semi to super poor get it because in the long run it will save you time, headache and money.

I use the 8600 for work as my designing computer - I take it home and bring it back to work, plug in my mouse, 21inch as a second monitor and I'm set. Make sure you get the high speed drive and lots of ram (I have 1 gig). Its a little bulky and heavy but that just because of the big monitor. The resolution is a little weird - at the highest resolution you have VERy tiny fonts - if you're not used to a laptop that may take some getting used to. When you lower the resolution it isn't quite as crisp. I'd recommend it but I havn't used the Sony to compare.

go with dell, get the super corporate insurance and accident coverage... you could literally drop it down the stairs or pour a pot of coffee on it and they would fix or replace it.
It is true though they are bricks... not for hauling around town when walking, but if you drive most places you will live well with said brick

The Dell wide screen is also pretty awesome. 1680x1050 gives you lots of room for documents and palettes.
Personally I don't think there will be much (if any) notable difference in performance in the two and the Dell is cheaper isn't it?
And yes - don't under-estimate the value of insurance. The amount of moving around of my laptop makes me always scared of dropping or breaking.
