looks great, like the mask flower thing.
i went to the portfolio and got the image of the girl in the car, tried to click on the other numbers and nothing hapenned, then clicked on numner one and nothing again, then the thumbnails loaded in without a preloader afer about 2 minutes. Im dial up so that wouldnt help, but would be nice to get a preloader for the thumbnails, thats if your aiming for dial up customers also

the loader animation happen, but too fast, then the skull thing flashed, then nothing, almost like the loader script isnt working

Beautiful site. Love the desogn. But the portfolio structure is bit confusing... to me anyway. Because i thought i was looking ate nr.1 and then tried to click all others, then clicked 1 and got what i was after. But when you leave portfolio it flashes back to the first image, which is bit annoying... maybe use that mask thing separetly so that you don't have to go back to certain frame to play the animation

so far nice, i like the transitions,
i'll put the very first logo anim together with the second that includes the preloader..
and i'll repeat those banner / crest shapes somewhere around the interface to make it a bit more organice.. it's too square ..

Very nice work Nic, I'm doing a photographer's site at the moment as well, will get it up for feedback when it's a bit more complete.
Love the reveals on the logo and ornaments, very slick.
A few things I think could be improved on...
The crest in the biog section is a bit basic looking, much prefer what you've done with the one in Contact, way more original.
Given the look of the site I reckon the body copy would be better set in a serif font. The current sans-serif one doesn't seem to fit that well. Not 100% into the black text, have you tried it in a dark brown?
The popup labels on the Nav don't fit in with the look of the site at all, do you really need them? Maybe something like a keyline that slides along under the nav would be better, indicates where you are but follows the mouse when it's over a button then snaps back if you mouse-off?
In portfolio the ghosted image behind the photos is a bit distracting. More info on the photos would be nice too.

1. Crest
There is a contact sheet of about 10-12 different icons/crests etc....I told him which ones I liked and didn;t - and he chose. I know what you mean and I keep harping on, but he likes that one : (
2. Body text
I know what you mean - I did try a couple of serifs and it looked a bit much - I'll have another try...any suggestions for a nice serif? I did try a dark brown but it amde it a bit harder to read..perhaps a very dark brown would work...
3. Pop-up labels
Client wanted something like an alt tag to pop up...so I knocked those up quickly to see if thats what he meant and he loved them and told me thats what he wanted. Quite a few people have commented on how they look out of place with the look and feel of the site, but to be honest it doesn;t bother me that much. maybe if I just change the background to something less linearand flat.....
4. Ghosted image
Was originally a mistake - meant to knock it all back but only knocked it 80% - client saw it like that and said he liked it - but I can see how it would be distracting. I do like how it adds a bit of depth to the page mind...don't know wether to fight it or not...

one more thing... when i roll over the set buttons under portfolio, theres that grey animation, but only when i roll over the button, but when i roll over the text it plays the animation of the next button. Get it?
what i mean is set 1 text rollover plays set 2 and so on, But only text... button itself is OK...
