it reall helps to have a car in SF but parking sucks. I'm about to sell mine cause I'm sick of the tickets.
Public transportation in SF sucks when your used to the subway in NY.
SF goes to sleep early as hell
overall you really can't compare the two because their so diffrent. It's all prefrence. I live in SF and wish I lived back in NY.

try NYC, if you don't like it move to SF.

I don't know many people in SF who own cars. It is feasible to own one, though.
Anywhere else in the Bay - it's a must.

NYC is the hands down winner.
SF is a nice town. but just can't compete.

First thing I'm doing when I move to SF is ditching my car.. . Compared to where I live now(San Diego) their Public Transportation is pretty damn good. If you want to go out to the country or something rent a car... My car insurance is 120 a month and car payments are pretty high, so I could totally justify a few car rentals a month for the weekend...
The city is not that big...something like 6 x 6 miles or something??

SF people think they know everything
NY people tell you they know everything.

you should work out your flat-land legs for a couple months before.
SF can be a rough walk!

"ecnalab, I'm drawn to short commutes without using a car, cafes where you can pop open a laptop without people looking at you funny, neighborhood bars, and lazy weekends spent wandering around. "
people don't look at anyone funny here-they just don't look!

SF.
cos they don't electrify the sidewalks of trendy neigborhoods here and kill dog walkers.
and the burritos are better here.

NYC has the best food in the world-
whatever you desire

I don't look at people funny.
I look at funny people.
