The Rotterdam Film Festival starts today and Kitano Takeshi is present to promote his new flick.
Anyway, about KillBill he said the following:
"I expected it to be bad"
"But when I saw it it was worse then my expectations: it was horrible"
"In Japan the film still became succesfull as a comedy for a good laugh"
(not exact quotes but it's what he said on the news..)
So, Japanese think it is a laugh, what about 'The Last Samurai'..
Will the Japanese think of Tom Cruise as the new Jim Carrey?
Jes' wondering..

I went to the Rotterdam Film estival last year... There are a lot of ponces there... but if he says it is horrible, it must be good

Takeshi = Hitchcock wannabe.

that's ridiculous. Kill Bill was one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. I put it up there with Pulp Fiction for sure.

the japanese love the last samurai...at least, that's what my japanese friend in japan thinks.
the difference: last samurai is respectful of japanese culture, kill bill is exploitive of japanese culture.

"kill bill is exploitive of japanese culture."
HHHHAAAAHAHAAAA!!
that was the best one i heard for weeks!

man, these children on newstoday. if you disagree, then say it and say why. don't gimme these playground taunts.
yes it's explotive. good or bad, whatever, that's not the point...cos kill bill never pretended to be a serious drama. but don't tell me there are really schoolgirls swinging maces there.
- tomkat0
it's overdrawn. in every way.
there's not more i can say about it.peace, man.
*bows in best kung-fu manner*

It's a fantasy film. I laugh my way through most of the super-action films that come out of Japan. I've heard Japanese co-workers of mine saying they thought Lost in Translation was rude and exploitive. I have to laugh, most of those stereotypes are true, in fact Coppola was holding back I'm sure.

Most Japanese action films have traditionally been exploitative. It's a whole genre from which Tarantino drew influences for Kill Bill. He has stated that this was intended as his attempt to make one of these films.
Like himn or hate him, I have to appreciate any director that makes films that can cause you to discover other films (and mucis for that matter)

as godbody as takeshi is, he's just mad everybody recognized gordon liu and nobody cared about chiaki kuriyama.

I didn't think Kill Bill was that great either... Not that it was bad, but for anyone out there that watches Asian films it was a second hand rehash of current/past Asian cinema. Best I can describe how I felt watching it was sort of like watching one of those cheesy highlight specials they show at award shows or something. If you liked Kill Bill then go and get the real deal and I guarantee you will like it a lot more. Some good movies:
Fudoh
Ichi the Killer
City of Lost Souls
....ok anything by Takashi Miike :-)Battle Royale
Brother
Shaolin Soccer
Versus
UzumakiGo explore the real deal!!

"but for anyone out there that watches Asian films it was a second hand rehash of current/past Asian cinema. "
i think that was the point. and also, of your list, only one movie is chinese, while the major influence for kill bill were the shaw brothers films (hence, shawscope). i am not arguing with you, kill bill might be my least favorite tarantino film, but i still enjoyed it.

exactly, it's all about whether you enjoy it in the end or not!
i for once like to scare Persian kittens with my John Kerry Haunted Helloween suit on!
Not everyone digs it, but I enjoy it!
