and if Aeron is too much the knock offs are perfectly good.

call an architect buddy or tell your local HM rep that its for personal use and you are a design profsssional.. shouldbe 450-550 depending on how you accessorize. New in the box with warranty. Its not the best ergonomic chair but at that price it is particularly without the armrests.

Try a Mirra chair; they can be a little cheaper

mirra is supposed to be better then areon. anyone try one out?

I got a chair just like that mesh office chair at OfficeMax for like 70 bucks on sale (floor model) although the seat cushion is a tan/beige.. My old chair was killing my back but this one's pretty swell

I'm not knockin the fancy pants chairs... honestly asking...
are they really $500 better than a regular office chair?
- FrogPond0
Yes, they are worth it. I have had mine since '97 and I got it through the local HM dealer and they gave me a really good price on it.
One big benefit of getting one new vs. getting a used one is that Herman Miller doesn't warranty any chair that is not owned by the original purchaser, so if you buy one used, it won't be warrantied.
Last year I had a problem with the tilt adjustment on it, and they replaced the entire chair. The awesome thing was that my original chair had a 7 year warranty, and the replacement has a 13 or 15(?) year warranty on everything on it.
You can also get them in colors now, and with chrome bits here and there, if you would like.
Check out the new Mirra chairs too, those are also great.

yes, I have had mine for 6 years and although i like the humanscale fredom chair it is for wee little folk as the arm rests dont stick out far enough.

The fabric on the Aeron is quite nice and it breathes well. When I purchased my chair they offered a stool height. so that is what I have. sadly they dont offer that extra height any more.
My advice get the best that you can afford.. your butt will thank you.

A good chair is so imprtant for your back if you spend hours and hours in front of the computer. It is like an investment in yourself.
Search ebay and you can find cheap aeron chairs. Makesure that it has the forward tilt mechanism though. My friend has this workchair by sitag. she likes it more then the aeron and she got it really cheap.

Milk crate turned over and site on it.

beats a stack o' phone books with a toilet mat on top.

or you could purchase an old toilet from somewhere and sit on that.. take out all the pumps and turn the back with the lid into an ice bin filled with beer.
