Yes, they are worth it. I have had mine since '97 and I got it through the local HM dealer and they gave me a really good price on it.
One big benefit of getting one new vs. getting a used one is that Herman Miller doesn't warranty any chair that is not owned by the original purchaser, so if you buy one used, it won't be warrantied.
Last year I had a problem with the tilt adjustment on it, and they replaced the entire chair. The awesome thing was that my original chair had a 7 year warranty, and the replacement has a 13 or 15(?) year warranty on everything on it.
You can also get them in colors now, and with chrome bits here and there, if you would like.
Check out the new Mirra chairs too, those are also great.
