Title - Art Director
salary -
comfortable.will i say how much though?
no..
i have before in threads like this, but i kinda think its a bit tacky now to brag, or to compare...years ago, when i started with this firm, i was all excited with my new paycheck, and how wonderful it was, ...
i went out for drinks with 2 of the senior developers one night (we're not a design firm, but a consulting firm..kinda like Anderson Consulting)
anyhow...we got talking about money and salaries...and they asked what i was making ..and i told them..
after which they declined to tell me how much they were making..
not because they were being jerks...but because they were making FAR FAR more than i was...
i think at the time, i was making about 45k or something like that, and they were probably at or surpassing 100k...now..that was years ago, and things have evened up a tad, and hard work and raises put me in a decent slot...but i learned something....
if you go around talking smack about how much you got, and how much you're banking..
you'll either look foolish to those that make more...or you'll look like a braggart and a boor to those that make less...another guy i know that hangs out in my crowd ( a mixed crowd it is..half teachers, engineers a few designers and a professor or 3...)
anyhow, this guy is a principle of a school....and is always going on about 'hey...i'm a mover and shaker..i make 75k a year..i'm all that and a bag of chips...)we all find it pretty tasteless to be honest...and have ragged on him a bit for it..
but for his sake, no one has mentioned the fact that the rest of us (for the most part) make the same, if not more...the one guy in the group of friends i have the most respect for is a guy named joe..
joe's a senior VP at a huge multi-national here in toronto, and i know he's pulling down around 150 to 200k..
but you'll NEVER here him talk about it..
ever..
matter of fact, he's usually the clown of the group and on first impressions, you'd probably think he's just making ends meet..
never brags..never goes on and on about new cars and shit like that..
now THAT is class...

I'm sorry, I don't mean to look foolish.
- exador10
no worries frank
not saying ya do...it's just that salary comparisons like this make some folks uncomfortable..
on the other hand..if you're really making that kind of cash..congrats! it takes a lot of hard work :)
cheers dude

average senior designer salary:
Senior designer
25th percentile: $45,000
50th percentile: $52,000
75th percentile: $62,000http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/…
btw, you should learn the difference between gross and net wages before bullshitting, salary amounts are never based on after tax "takehome" pay...

Just got another project. Make that 150k. I'll have to do the math to figure out the net.

i work daily for a sum of 10 golden pazuzzas. this modest sum will afford me a can of lentils, some whippets and a ticket to saturdays pelting match.

i don't get it. this whole thread was created to stroke your ego. Now that we all know you have a giant penis... lets move on.
if you're not lying.... then you must be doing something right... or your doing something highly illegal.
but if you're going to go around calling people morons, frank, you ought to back it up with some work. I'd like to see what people are paying 150k a year for.
it's hard to think that a designer/programmer/multimedia person would make more than some lawyers and CPAs I know. It seems so very unlikely.
But in the long run... you better learn how to be humble. Because you might just loose it all in an instant when your clients ditch you or the firms you work for loose interest and you've already bought that 500k house in orange county and you cant pay your mortgage. people with attitudes like yours never really seem to appreciate how lucky they are in my past experience. It always ends up a recipe for disaster. If you think clients/people don't smell your massive ego from a mile away, you're not living on planet earth.
you may have won the lotto but it wont last if you continue to be a giant twat. you'll see. I'm kind of offended by your attitude. exador was right
