there are many different types of people in america, just as anywhere else... can we skip past the broad and sweeping generalizations? everybody?

and all this bullshit about killnig osmeone with a tree etc... or a kitchen knife... the fact is that a knife has uses other than for killing people, whereas a guns main purpose is to kill

The Americans value their constitution and the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment deals with the right to bear arms. Here is the price that ordinary Americans are paying for the privilege
- 12 children a day die in murders, suicides and accidents involving guns
- since John F. Kennedy was assinated more Americans have died from gunshot wounds at home than died in all the wars of the 20th century
- Osama bin Laden would need nine twin towers like attacks a year to equal what Americans do to themselves every year with guns.
- Murder rates in LA, NY and Chigago were approaching the hightest in the world (30 per 100,000) until moves were made in late last century to restrict access to guns to teenagers.
(The NRA wants these moves reversed)

drawing parrallels between drug use and gun ownership is just way off imho.
the fact that guns are this easily available in the US doesn't really help.
i am glad we solved a lot of crime problems by decriminalizing (not legalizing, no drugs is LEGAL here in the Netherlands) softdrugs, and have extremely strict laws here on gun ownership.
The fact that this shooting incident gets so much media attention here shows us it is not common practice to shoot teachers in the head.
and I am happy with our policy.
however many police chiefs and professors here say that we should have a 'controlled' decriminalization of harddrugs as well, as crimes related to the use of it are putting too much pressure on our justice system lately.

i think the states need to be more relaxed. they are not in a war with the world. it's so sad what happend to them, i agree. but contiueing to fear the people, from foreigners, neighbours etc, is a bad way to solve this problem. imho everyone should start more carinhg about each other and help people out. call it treehugging or whatever. if it's done from heart & mind, there is nothing wrong with that. and where you can better fight against brutality? in the family.
this one here should have been my original post. but i think it won't help. but maybe some of us here should try it tonight to think things over.

I'm sorry, I was speaking on two different points and after rereading it is clear that I didn't make a divider between the two.
Drugs and Violence are the worlds problems that stem from the nature of man.
And on the point about America I just get tired of the world raging America, We have our ways everyone else has theirs. I don't attack a country as a whole when they do things I don't like. I haven't been to that many different countries and I don't know them. A side what my education and the media have feed me, neither of which I think can truly define a culture and its people. Yet it seems that many others are willing to jump on the backs of us (and other nations for that matter) as if they know what its like to live there are to try and make it in our culture.
I think there are a lot of intellegent people here and I hate to see them judge America on a few bits here and there. We aren't perfect by any means, but that doesn't mean we should pack our shit and leave. If we do then the changes that need to be made won't.
This probably stems from other events dealing with those outside this country ragging and I have to sit there and deal because they are a client.
