slight seriousness:
i have guns in my house. they are all loaded. what makes me different from a kid who shoots his teacher in the face? a world of difference including mental stability (and lack thereof) and a respect for tools and for living and feeling creatures.
i dont hunt. and i am a non-hippie treehugger so bite me.
all owners should undergo fierce psycological examination before they are allowed to own. and IF the world would be a better and safer place with me unarmed, (insert dismemberment joke) then i'd sell my pistols for scrap metal.
now to paraphrase lao tsu, go hug a tree and say thankyou to the ten thousand things.

is it an ancient game that was discovered by bovine loving archeologists one fine day out by the cowsheds?

a good percentage of the posts here by anti-gun protestors is filled with sarcasm, wit and plain nonsense.
if you were hoping to convince others who don't see guns as much of a problem as you do i think you've failed miserably. i wonder if this nature is indicitive of most people like yourselves. and if that is the case, i can see then why guns are still legal.

and all this bullshit about killnig osmeone with a tree etc... or a kitchen knife... the fact is that a knife has uses other than for killing people, whereas a guns main purpose is to kill

The Americans value their constitution and the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment deals with the right to bear arms. Here is the price that ordinary Americans are paying for the privilege
- 12 children a day die in murders, suicides and accidents involving guns
- since John F. Kennedy was assinated more Americans have died from gunshot wounds at home than died in all the wars of the 20th century
- Osama bin Laden would need nine twin towers like attacks a year to equal what Americans do to themselves every year with guns.
- Murder rates in LA, NY and Chigago were approaching the hightest in the world (30 per 100,000) until moves were made in late last century to restrict access to guns to teenagers.
(The NRA wants these moves reversed)

drawing parrallels between drug use and gun ownership is just way off imho.
the fact that guns are this easily available in the US doesn't really help.
i am glad we solved a lot of crime problems by decriminalizing (not legalizing, no drugs is LEGAL here in the Netherlands) softdrugs, and have extremely strict laws here on gun ownership.
The fact that this shooting incident gets so much media attention here shows us it is not common practice to shoot teachers in the head.
and I am happy with our policy.
however many police chiefs and professors here say that we should have a 'controlled' decriminalization of harddrugs as well, as crimes related to the use of it are putting too much pressure on our justice system lately.

"De afgelopen tien jaren is het onderwijs erg veranderd. Niet alleen het onderwijs veranderde, maar ook de maatschappij, de leerling, de ouders, de docenten. Allerlei ontwikkelingen zijn in volle gang."
oops.
"The end ten years is the education awful changed. Not only the education changed, but also the society, the pupil, the parents, the instructors. All sorts of developments its in full course."
(sorry for the english of the translation programm)

Anybody who comes up with the argument that guns doesn't kill, but that people kill isn't worth the energy.
I can't find one good reason why people should own a gun, it is stupid, it is violent, it is dangerous and it's pretty pathetic to brag about it.
- mitsu0
the famous adage,"guns don't kill people, people kill people" has a flaw. the truth is that both kill people. so i do actually agree with some of you that the mere availablility of guns is actually an issue, but i also believe that the abolishment of guns is futile.
