I am not working as a graphic designer and I accept cig ads, but I guess as soon as you are the person who creates those things your perspective shifts a bit and it naturally seems a bit wrong.
I think it is the same with films... there is a big difference between watching a film with crazy violence and being the person who creates them.

Wow, you know I just read this entire string and nto a single perosn mentuioned the first things first manifesto. (www.winfight.org).
Is this just elitest garbage? Are we supposed to figth against the system that affords us the luxuries we hold so dear? Do we bite the hand that feeds?
I say its about taking a middle ground and doing what you can, ir your cornwer, without sacrificing your wellbeing.
You want to do a marlboro ad? do you need the money? right, then fuckin give' er.......and if you recieve a stroke of brilliance where you can slip some sort of subversion past the company.....more power to ya...

mass boycott ciggarettes. haha, ya, that'll be the day
- phist0
i'd make crazy loot off work for phillip morris and then use the money (after bills and living expenses) to culture jam those mothers and create mass boycotts.

nope...at least they dont show it...just see a lot of people complaining about others websites etc. take a look at some of the peoples info in the threads that complain about peoples work and such and they have no website themselves...so sad so its true chach
- chach0
most of us here don't produce personal work? wha?

super interesting article...so based on that article alone I should take a high paying job so I can get out of debt and be happy. If I could pay off my school loans and such that would be great. And to the people that complain that they cant create "cool" work at a big firm are crazy. I used to think that myself, but you have to create other work outside of work to keep yourself fresh. Since I have been working for myself I have a crazy amount of pressure to make new things to attract new clients and thats the worse...its hard to create "art" on demand rather than when you just feel the need to do it. Sad to say most of the people that use NT dont make "stuff" anyway they just complain...its only a select few that seem to produce work that inspires all of us

and its our job to make these things so fucken appealing.
how many times have you laughed out load at copy that the wanky marketing departments send you, knowing full well its a load of horse shit, but still we put it on a spoon and shove it down joe publics throat. That was a good article:
"Its suggested remedies include green taxes, laws requiring industry to take back life-expired products, making goods which will last longer, and more responsible choices by individual consumers."

"It still amazes me that people have all these 'morals' but will happily live in a system and lifestyle that perpetuates consumerism in the first place"
Exactly!!!

At the end of the day all we do is make money for people by making their communication more effective.
So whether your promoting fags, beer, macs, windows, or coke, its all the same thing.
It still amazes me that people have all these 'morals' but will happily live in a system and lifestyle that perpetuates consumerism in the first place.
Fucking designers piping on about iPods, and Macs, and cool trainers and the 'right' t-shirt.We are all whores

i believe i was contacted by the same friend of ours about that position.
personally, i'm not interested.the money at that place is insanely, insanely good. but it's really kind of a siren song.
do you want your work there to be what defines you? i know a few designers at that place and it really seems to almost drain them, they never do anything personal.
maybe it's the new year optimism speaking but there's a list of things i want to accomplish this year, i couldnt see them happening working at that place.just my 2bits

the place i worked had an RFP for Penhouse to do some company presentations, not even porn. the owner did an anonymous survey of the employees to see if anyone cared. we didn't take on the project. it made me happy to know i'm working with people with good morals, at least as far as porn.
