What's the average day rate for a freelancer doing flash animation / web design nowadays?. I been charging a $200 day rate. Been doing that for about 4 years now.
- jpea0
$42/hour. i guess day rate would be then $336.
not sure if this stacks up or not
- Geith0
Yeah, $200 ain't shite. That about half of what you should be getting.
- ********0
$200 per day is a lot for some people, depends on where you live. It's not in NYC or LA or UK I would imagine.

Ichiro
any coding involved?
or are we talking template here...
- Ichiro0
Some scripting,..not very complicated,..but yea,
Man i'm late responding..hehe
- Lop0
Some peeps doing motion g's are getting $500 an hour
- Donvitoviti0
200 is crap no matter where your at if you are decent at what you do...
the reason being you still have to pay for your own insurance and taxes... yada
you are making 48k a year.. but you are only really makine like 30k after all of yoru health. taxes.. etc.
You should be charging minimum 40bucks an hour... i would be charging 50 or more.
Remember agencies bill you out to their clients for like 100+ an hour.. so 50 isnt bad at all
- Ichiro0
Man,..i feel raped..
:(
- ********0
yeah but if you work a whole week 2k seems kinda steep....
- Lop0
for 50 an hour you're better off gettin' unemployment pay and find a better job
- Donvitoviti0
2k a week is not steep at all for freelance. that is about what it should be.
Take away health and taxes etc. you are down to a normal paying job.
- ********0
ok - ill ask that heheh
- brundlefly0
yeah I was getting $45 an hour at the last agency...and I felt like that was low...
- tripleflux0
You should talk them into working offsite, then get like two other jobs at the same time.
- CyBrainX0
Sounds like a lot to me, but I haven't done much freelance. Where do you live?
- CyBrainX0
Uh, I read that wrong. $200 per day is $25 per hour. Anything less than $40 per hour is a rip off. I worked at $35 an hour for design/developement and a little Flash about a year ago. They were very happy with my rate. At least they were honest. I was just unemployed and it was my first freelance. It paid the bills for a month.
- atomica0
Huh, I should ask for more, but my freelance isn't my bread n butter. I ask for 35/hr...... it seems to be decent, since my insurance is paid through my full time job.

Christ, you lot should all come and live in Italy.
Flash and director programmers are put into the same pay bracket as Manual labourers. The best contract I could get was the govermental standard 'Metal worker' contract.
I earn about 1300 Euros a month.
And the worst thing is people here think I am on a good wage.
Count yourselves very lucky that you live in countries that give just rewards for relatively new professions. the only people who earn proper money in this country are Doctors, Lawyers, accountants and politicians.
In fact Im moving back to London in 5 months, Ive had enough of this shit.
- wesfx0
you guys are lucky. try demanding $50+ an hour in houston and you'll be forever out of work.
last flash dev job i had i made $35k/year and was happy to get it.

Hell... I have personally charged upwards of $100 an hour. You figure your time, work & attention to any client is more than worth that. It all depends on your work ethic which makes it pay off. I have always given 110% to all of my clients and continue to push the envelope by learning new skills and keeping on eye on what the other design houses are up to. This is well worth the price. Then again I always leave the door open for all clients to go to someone who may charge less - but they learn in the long run adn end up coming back.
