At the creative departement of the company i worked at we allways talked about 'Dead by powerpoint'
Account managers allways lost their pitches when they did presentations of over an hour with a powerpoint slideshow.
It could be quit interresting as an art medium. And maybe within a few months we see powerpoint elements used in new graphic design. Thanks to Mr. Byrne :)
I hate to look at powerpoint presentations. Boring shit. And because evryone can make a powerpoint presentation it looks like everyone can do design. At least they think they do.
Dead to powerpoint!

Here's another source of reason: http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte…
The problem is we all know what shit PowerPoint is, but try convincing all the salesmen, execs and miscellaneous ninnies in the world.

This is another one of those subjects that comes up every now and then. I can't understand why. sure the tool is limited, but quit bitching and make the most of it. I have seen so many shitty final presentations with a wacky designer mumbling some random shit, that it is time for you people to start concentrating on the message instead of complaining about the tools. Sure it may be constraining, but so is everything else if they can't make a point. It is great if somebody finds a way to misuse a tool for something new. Maybe not very original this time, but combining different ideas is the only way for creating innovations.

Blend, before, you go insulting strangers about their supposed bad presentation material, perhaps you should get back to the points being made about the software and the people who use it. In this case, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and the salesmen pretending to be multimedia developers with several different transitions and arial type in primary colors with that microsoft underlining everywhere, is just getting in the way of the message, no matter how bad that message is.
The phrase PowerPoint Art is equivalent to the phrase classic disco.

actually what annoys me the most is people posing a question/starting a tread and then without their own input tell others to "discuss" (no offence to whoever started this topic).
- blend20
all I'm saying is that you should not throw stones in a glass house. Don't go blaming the business-oriented people for using a tool we haven't successfully been able to help them use.

I saw James Baker of WDDG do a presentation in power point once. It was hilarious.
I think Byrne is doing a similar joke... and whats funny is how noone gets it...

powerpoint makes me cringe...
... but so does bad multimedia.
I don't know what to think. It's good news for Microsoft whatever way you look at it.

"The phrase PowerPoint Art is equivalent to the phrase classic disco."
He-heh. In twenty years time people will love it just like we enjoy retro games now.
- CyBrainX0
You're right, retro computers are in and the next logical step is retro software.
I still have Netscape and IE 2 on my first computer.

Maybe he could teach us a thing or two about swoosh-sounds and how they work with slideshows.
It's funny how the article makes such a big deal out of it. That's the saddest part.

That was the point Jox, I have no opinion about powerpoint. I have never used it.

1- In my non-design orientated workplace, Powerpoint is the presentation solution. I showed flash a few times and each time they were like wow and all that.
But we eventually still wound up with Powerpoint due to the changes my bosses like to make last minute.
2- At the Macromedia 2k4 launch, the only question ignored during the Q&A session was 'How come you folks use Powerpoint instead of Breeze to do your presentation?'
Cute, huh.
