does anyone else get frustrated when giving long distance technical help? not job related, but for someone you really WANT to help...family, friend...
i try to stay calm, but when you can't see the screen (and the person you're helping is upset) and you know you could probably fix it in a few minutes... etc.. sigh.
sorry to vent but just wondering if any one experiences this, or has suggestions on how to make it more pleasant.

If they have xp or xp pro you can use remote desktop access:

I've used it a couple of times and it makes it really simple. There's a bunch of other software that do the same thing if you don't have xp.

thanks for the adivce gabriel. i have done that with someone in the past and it worked out pretty well. but unfortunately today's help was for my mother. and she's on a mac...old...running 9.1.4...and she can't even boot up...
i guess, it's more that she doesn't even own the proper software. it'd be nice if i could just stop by for 10 minutes and fix it you know...

it's frustrating, I tell you that much. Well using MS products in general is.

depends on what MS products. Anything can be frustrating when it doesn't work.

that's true. it just compounds that frustration even more when you 'think' that you could take care of the problem quickly...if you were actually there. some things just can't be explained over the phone, or it becomes very very lengthly...
