there's lots of chi-town heads over at yay-hooray http://www.yayhooray.com . i live in illinois, down in champaign-urbana. (about two hours south of chicago).

Represent, yes! Why is the country so polarized? Everyone in the middle retreats to the coasts. Chicago should've never lost the Playboy Mansion, that's when everyone started to chicken out and split. However, publishing is not dead in the city: there are a lot of great, vital publications coming out the Midwest. Keep it up.

It's cold out today, but only 26 degrees. We still have January, February, and March to look forward to you know.
So what are your favorite places in the city?
Bar: Quenchers @Western & Fullerton. I've been playing the open mic there (acoustic/singing) for over 2 years, they have the largest beer selection in Chicago.
Restaraunt: cheap food-Celtic Crown on Western
non-cheap food-Meritage Cafe & Wine Bar, Damen in Bucktown, also The Capitol Grill for the best steak you will ever eat in your life. few blocks off Mich. Ave.

bar(s):
Whiskey (on Rush). Usually when friends are in town and i got a pocketful of dollars and fancy being served drinks by beautiful girls in skimpy black dresses.
Old Town Ale House (on North/Wells). Low lifers, down'n'outs and the best juke box (in town).
plus Danny's, Lava Lounge and Iguana Cafe...
restaurants:
my GF has expensive tastes...La Colonial, Red light...Old Jersualem (on Wells) for cheap, very good middle-eastern.

Yeah Quenchers! Hey mg33, my friend Rick does open mic there all the time too. I've probably seen you play before....
- unknown0
Yah, I know Rick. I've been playing at Peace a few times lately too, the open mic he hosts every other Tuesday.
I live down on Logan Blvd.Do you play in a band?

From Milwaukee moved to Chicago a long time ago moved to NYC in 2002-2003 just moved back to Chicago. I miss NYC but chicago seems a lot nicer with a car. (and warmer)
Two words "Green" "Mill"
- tripleflux0
green mill is the best place in the city. people flee to the coasts because of the whole guyville thing.
- KingMob0
That's funny, mg33. Small world. I go to Piece every now and then on Tuesdays as well....I'm in a band called StrategyGame right now...

KingMob-I thought that you were that person. Do you know Fred Frey? I think he knows one of you in SG.
He's playing drums in a band I've gotten together recently, that I've been working on for over a year.Checked out your site and it's very nice. Some good songs as well. I imagine once I've got everything going we will have to do a show.

MG: Alright, Yeah I totally know who you are now. I've seen you play a bunch of times. Good stuff. You and Fred need to get that band going so we can do some shows together....

KingMob,
I like the SG web site, very slick in comparison to many other bands in town.
I went through the links there and found quite a few bands I'd not heard of.
I'm very excited about getting our thing going. I've literally been working on this for 1 1/2 years now and very glad I've met Fred as after one practice it was obvious he's the drummer I need. We have a bass player as well, and while I am 50/50 on the availabilty of our second guitarist due to his commitment to another band-I may soon be shopping around for another guitarist.
No acoustic stuff, but somewhat in the same vein as the acoustic songs you've seen me do.
I guess I'd say smash The Cure, The Catherine Wheel, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Swervedriver, Kent, and Hum and Placebo together and see what you get.
Bombastically magestic, I guess you could say :)
Can't wait to get out there and start playing shows.
