not entirely. If Canada wasn't as farsighted as they were to have instituted the Quebec Act, which let the French stay and retain their Catholic ways, there would be no Quebec at all. Assimilation is what happened in all the places in the US that have franch names and you never knew why. Like Louisville. and Detroit. and New Orleans.

its all about culture and speaking... Quebec province is the only french land in America, we are surrounded by english people ....if we dont do something in 50 or 60 years from now french will be erased from Amrica for ever and ever and ever .... Look in the history book, case like Quebec is not alone ... and the futur is clear... we have to fight to keep french alive.
On another hand, we are soooo different from the rest of canada, with our own tradition, culture etc. For exemple, someone from Alberta is like a stranger to me ... I can't identify me to them.
And the rest of canada is very ''americanised'' .... all the canadians (outside quebec) listen to USA television, listen to USA music and watch USA movies .... here in Quebec we watch our own movie, our own television and we produce great music.
Anyway... i can go on and on. I will not go into the political side ...
I hope you understand a little bit more :P
