Is anyone having trouble in 6 where they wasn't in 5?
I'm trying to convince my boss to upgrade me so i can stop launching classic. Isn't there a PDF feature as well?
- benfal990
i think there is a PDF feature, but not sure...
maybe you should look at the web site: http://www.quark.com/products/xp…
there is a direct PDF export thing ... i just readed it. go on the site

Let me take this opportunity to recommend you switch to InDesign.
- benfal990
I agree with Mimio. In Design is soooo much user friendly

I work directly with an inhouse offset printer who prefers the dinosaur method.
Besides my company already owns quark 5, so all we need is a $200 upgrade.
C'on, where's the quark heads at?
- SLAZ0
i would like to know too
- BonSeff0
we are ordering 2 copies of 6 right now. mostly so it works in osX.
i hate the canned "get indesign" response. i have indesign. i prefer quark.
- benfal990
BonSeff, its normal if you always worked with Quark ...
For a newbie I would recommand InDesign ... its Adobe-like GUI and its a way more ergonomic.

I switched from using Quark ( 6 years) to InDesign. It's not a canned response it's a real one that comes from a lot of experience of being frustrated with quark as a production tool. The ideas that Quark is some how more sophisticated and professional is just an excuse, because it's simply not factual.
- BonSeff0
who says quark is more sophisticated and professional? if you like indesign, use it.
it's just typical when there is a quark question people come with the "get indesign" response.
- BonSeff0
i think one pisser is that with 6 you cant save down to 4. so hopefully the printers have a version of 5 handy

NO QUARK vs. INDESIGN...please!
I'm just looking for evidence that Quark 6 won't monkey wrench our workflow.

went to quark 6, no real problems, but soon as i put panther on i've had nothing but trouble....i hate it. stay way.
- BonSeff0
i just installed panther. havent put quark6 on yet. what sort of problems are you having?
- jh0
I have quark 6 and am considering Panther - what are the issues?
As far as the in-design question goes I've found that printers in the UK won't touch In-Design which means whether you like it or not as a designer you need to make use of Quark

By the way there is PDF support in Q6.

I didnt think Quark 6 was OSX native. We just got a copy in work and havent installed it yet cos we have to find out what version the printers are using.
Most printers are using Quark 4 except for one or two which, strangely, are using either version 8 or 9. When did that upgrade come out!

quark is releasing 6.1 with panther support in a few weeks....here's a snippit...
"CreativeMac noted in November that Quark was planning on introducing QuarkXpress 6.1 in the "very near future". The update is said to have Panther support, performance enhancements, better Excel integration and font tools.
here is some another artical
I am back from an Apple seminar in Brussels (Belgium). Quark was there, and on one of the G5 in the show-room was installed (to my surprise) Quark XPress version6.1. Not a beta version....a real final version 6.1!!
There are some new features, but essentially many bugs are fixed, and it is Panther compatible. My friend was ecstatic when he tested successfully the short-cut allowing to increase/decrease the size of a letter, it was the same emotion with the function allowing to rotate a bloc degree by degree. Finally the function allowing to import a document in its native application inside Quark XPress... no more need of the free Xtension from Badia...
Regarding speed and performance, with Panther on a Dual G5 2GHz and 2GB of RAM (with a n Apple 20" flat screen), it was amazingly fast!!!
Quark is claiming that the pdf exporting function is as performant as Adobe Distiller... well I could not test it ...
But I have found the table function either still a bit "bugged" or less performant than Indesign. But there is a big news (which could bring back Quark in its monopoly position...):
QUARK DYNAMIC DOCUMENT SERVER (Quark DDS).
This a server allowing to convert (real time) a XP file into a file which could be open via TCP/IP, on internet, by another user without requiring XPress!!! it is fully functional and it is integrated inside your web browser. It should be compatible with all XPress version (la 3, la 4, la 5 et la 6).

Quark 6. Yes its better. Ive got the Adobe studio suite as well, but havent tried useing indesign yet. Quark is just quark though, its industry standard its not much to look at but underneath the service there is alot going on. I mean look at the fuckin manual, its the size of a small apartment. best addded features ive found is : infinte Undo fuction ( finnally), print to pdf ( bascically means it will save a pdf version of your file. Its also automatically importing pantone colours from imported eps files.. ( I think).. Dont have much time to think really how great or how shit it is, read the manual, learn to use quark the correct "industry standard way" etc etc blah blah quark quark..
Here's a question Why is Quark called Quark?
