It's unatural. Creative dependence disorder, it's a mental condition that most competitive webdesigners have. It's triggered by an event that weakens or damages a person self-esteem. They just made a industry out of it so they don't feel guilty dedicating their lives to over massaging their egos.

I have nothing to add. Pixelranger has the goods on this one with the proof to back it up. That site says it all.
Of course, the steroids-ridden ones are sick, but they are way in the minority.
