I have my own sound production company, called Loopheads Soundware but I haven't officially let it lose. Still waiting on next product to do so.

Nice! jazX yeah i've notice a there are only a few sound production companies that specialize on websites, theres a need for this market.

Aliyah had her company for 4 years, and I have had my own since 1995, we are currently merging the two, we have a mazillion tales and things not to do lists

HAD my own company, but just because you're decent designer, doesnt necessarily mean you're a good businessman. I have really have a lot of respect for those who can master the both ...

I'm starting my project slowly...
-on a transition from freelancing into a better long-term self employment...I think these are some of the most iportant things to do just to start things rolling ok:
0.sketching and noting on paper toput things in order... create a own identity, spread the word around on a self marketing campaign... bla bla
1.A good and warm workplace/office to work.
2. organized hourly schedule/ task management
3. keep in contact with the clients..
4. formalities.. good looking and waking up early is also important... (lazyness kills it)
5.Low "budget " at start : equipment and technical (art-finishing, source material handling)
6.economic stability... just in case of an accident..
7.Secure and policies according to the workspace and work methods...
8.I can't remember more.

contracts....
you'll need a NDA (non disclosure agreement)Rights of Usability comes in handy (copyright)RFP response, , Proposal
Strong identity, if there is a chamber of commerce in town - join, hangout give out biz cards, take silly seminars, get noticed.
contact the big local software developers, find the HR person, or disgruntled PM's, massage them gently, before adding to mixture, bring to a quick boil, then add butter stir remove.....er opps making dinner.
- kodap0
Righ on..
- AD0
yup.
-network,
-market yourself alot,
-learn to write really good proposals and figure out where RFPs are coming from
-watch your tax shit - write your bus stuff off
- save for a rainy day - money comes in bunches and is scarce in bunches
- even though it sucks and doesn't look good, sometimes you have to make that text and logo better - meaning sometimes designs will be compromised to satisfy involved clients and get a sign off

yeah, me too. best thing to do is to get an awesome sales guy. i did, and our profits went through the roof.

thanks ible, there are a lot but you right not quite as many as general web production, which is mass overload. I want to more or less support programs with rex-files (.rx2) such as Reason, Cubase, Logic and Sonar. The big boys.
- unfittoprint0
sure, kodap. I'm on a tight schedule this weekend [work/concert/anniversary]. Next week, maybe?
btw, you're working in some agency in LX?

been going now for 7 years, my advice:
1. watch the cash flow
2. save money into seperate accounts for vat and tax - and don't spend it! or you will be f**ked when that vat/tax bill comes in - been there, not nice
3. chase invoices - be harsh if you have to, it's business and some clients respect you for doing it
4. get a good accountant - a bad one can screw you as you are ultimately responsible for the figures!Once these things are taken care of the business side should run itself to let you enjoy being creative and your own boss. Enjoy!

Adding my two cents for client work.
Ive worked my many years of college dollers off doing not design but sales. The two are working together slowly into a moveable company path.
Dealing with a client is something that comes with experience. You have to play with the client like a small child who is about to cry. Be confident for the project. CONFIDENCE is the secret key to everything. Make sure the client knows you CAN do this. Make sure you take care of the client. Talk to them as much as possible. They are trusting their image and money with something they know nothing about but letting you in control.
