been going now for 7 years, my advice:
1. watch the cash flow
2. save money into seperate accounts for vat and tax - and don't spend it! or you will be f**ked when that vat/tax bill comes in - been there, not nice
3. chase invoices - be harsh if you have to, it's business and some clients respect you for doing it
4. get a good accountant - a bad one can screw you as you are ultimately responsible for the figures!Once these things are taken care of the business side should run itself to let you enjoy being creative and your own boss. Enjoy!
