As some of you may or may not know, I posted a thread earlier this week concerning the creation of a HTML email for a newsletter I was creating.
This provoked some negative response, and just so I have a little info before I go into a meeting next week, why do some people think HTML email is a bad thing? any plus points would be gratefully recieved as well...
Thanx, and woohooo it's FRIDAY!

I have to create HTML email newsletters for work and the people receiving them give us great feedbacks for the most part
Of course, the newsletter is for a celebrity-photographer and not for some useless product/service.
One problem lately is that Hotmail users cannot view anything if you send them HTML. SO you probably have to separate the hotmail.com users from the rest.

I like getting thml emails from places I have signed up from...it's better than reading fucking text emails!

Because the idea of e-mailing wasn't to send smaller presentations to eachother.
Besides, many people (me included) have filtered it so it won't get through.

a) because 99% of the html e-mail is spam. and it's 100% associated with spam.
b) some e-mail clients don't like it. either fucks up or makes it slower. sometimes eudora (what i use) crashes on it (sometimes even to a total system shutdown).
c) for people with modem it's especially annoying coz all the gfx needs to be pulled of a webserver. thus if you have received all your e-mails and you click on a html e-mail it connects again.
d) most of the time it's not functional. sometimes it looks like a website. for a website i use a browser not my e-mail client.
e) if you have a mailinglist where people can subscribe too and one of the options is html e-mail than yes, that's perfectly fine.
what ever happened to plain txt and if you want to know more a link?

"One problem lately is that Hotmail users cannot view anything if you send them HTML"
that's total crap! hotmail and yahoo both support html emails - I know because we do a lot of testing...you must be sending them out wrong...

Then enlighten me on how to send it right. This is a recent issue for us.
- jevad0
how are you sending them out and what do they look like when they get to hotmail? Is it just hotmail or yahoo too?
- lind0
Yahoo is great.
I'll post what I send online in a few minutes...
- jevad0
one thing to bear in mind is that hotmail and yahoo will strip out any CSS you embed in the html - so always href the css or put it in a style in the body tag....always also include an informative commented out quote at teh top of your html email for those people who filter html emails so they will get a message that says something like:
If you cannot see this email please visit http:///www.yourserver.com/email…...

This is what I paste onto Outlook Express with Rich Text formatting and the "send pic" feature turned off http://home.earthlink.net/~i2x/n…
This hasn't happened before but starting last month it appears Hotmail users can't view anything in the message portion.
- jevad0
yeah well for a start hotmail will strip out all that css...and it's a bit dodgy sending it from outlook too..we ahve a database email system at work here that we developed that we can upload emails to and send to any amount of people from any email address....

"error parsing xml doc
-incorrect syntax was used in the comment tag"
- jevad0
and why have you got it as an xml page?

As always fellas, you never fail to satisfy, great feedback thanks...
Plus I haven't had any errors yet with Yahoo or Hotmail, though as it's my first, the code's pretty simple.
Wicked BBC review as well... cheers...
