a) because 99% of the html e-mail is spam. and it's 100% associated with spam.
b) some e-mail clients don't like it. either fucks up or makes it slower. sometimes eudora (what i use) crashes on it (sometimes even to a total system shutdown).
c) for people with modem it's especially annoying coz all the gfx needs to be pulled of a webserver. thus if you have received all your e-mails and you click on a html e-mail it connects again.
d) most of the time it's not functional. sometimes it looks like a website. for a website i use a browser not my e-mail client.
e) if you have a mailinglist where people can subscribe too and one of the options is html e-mail than yes, that's perfectly fine.
what ever happened to plain txt and if you want to know more a link?
