We are in 2004.
PPL who INSIST on having EVERYTHING FIT on a fucking ugly 800x600 screen WITHOUT SCROLLS, deserve to die or something.
- jox0
that's EXACTLY what i keep shouting at people for driving cars older than 1999. I mean WHAT THE FUCK, take a loan. Do something, instead of driving around in ol' farts!!
- sparker0
tell that to your grandma the next time she wants to email you.
some people *need* it. why is that so hard for graphic designers to grasp. the web isn't just about your pretty fluff site...users dictate what is needed, not you.
i agree, 800 x 600 is pretty useless - but there are at least 10 people in my office alone that use because they can read it better. it is not my place to say they suck, nor is it yours.
just don't design for it, design for 1024x768 (which is still the majority user res) and let the 800 x 600 people scroll.

800x600 is a beautiful thang.

what's this strange taste in my mouth?
oh yea......

well u know at some point in time people will have to change and ADAPT ... its called EVOLUTION ... i think its about time for some evolution now ...
- brandelec0
iagree

LOL...Evolution?
Sorry kiddies but in the real world, there's still shed loads of people who surf at 8x6....just coz you (and me) surf at 16x12, that doesnt mean everyone does - do your myopic parents? How about the MD who runs his laptop at that res coz its easier to read? You cant berate everyone for that res.....
deal with it.....its like the mac vs pc argument. sure I love my mac, and I get by with my pc, but if i stuck with my mac Id be left in the minority.....the fact that most of the world still surfs 8x6 means you need to factor it in, if you cant convince the client, then get a life an quit moaning.....
- sparker0
and it will happen, if you stop designing for it.
but whining about it just because *you* don't think it's needed won't help.
i don't think people should keep designing web sites in invalid, non-complaint markup. jeezz why don't you all just use correct xhtml/css layouts...stop using tables for layout.
fuck, evolve designers, evovle. learn to do things the *RIGHT* way instead of the old, broken, poor way.
it works both ways, mate. if you want users to be a little more savvy, why don't you upgrade your skills as well?

besides, saying that i *need* internet explorer to view a site is bad. i use linux. sorry.
:)

400x300 is the future. get use to it.
- jox0
i agree with everything sparker says.
i can't think for myself.
- brandelec0
the clients won't let me...

i feel so cheap now

yeah well i used tables , so what , that was just for testing ie filters ...
its been a while now , im primary a designer , i know designer that dont even know how to upload stuff on a ftp geez... At work even tho im the designer i do html (so i do 2 jobs) aswell and i make sure everything runs on mac/pc and IE and netscape , safari whatever i crossbrowser/platform test everything i do even THO, im not supposed to... even tho i dont use/love mac really much. Also i never said i was the KING of html , and i would LOVE to do everything right , really... but i cant cuz im not god , although i get better everytime.
But the thing about 800x600 i guess it all depends on ure target audience , in our case , the audiance isnt 80years old people who live in the pakistan mountains ... our audiance is french young adult who live in quebec ( which is pretty up to date in terms of technology) , high speed connection because of alot of graphic content and flash... but we also did a low bandwidth html version just in case...
also , my point if u look closely on my first post was for people who INSIST ... and thats what really annoying to me , just because u LOVE to be outdated and use 8x6 because u CANT SEE or whatever reason , well old granpa go ahead , sure u are gonna have to SCROLL , so what ? i dont care , go ahead scroll ... Also i usualy put non vital info outside the 800x600 limit , like logos and design thingys...

> 320x240 is where it's at.
that's the truth.
evolution is NOT buying a bigger monitor - it's building a web site that works on my tablet PC, my palm, my phone, etc...
- sparker0
exactly.
besides that, with new laws and regulations going into effect (ie: DDA, ADA, etc) it will require sites to begin designing within WAI guidelines and for "all" audiences.
the web isn't a target market...neither are it's users.
(a note about that)
"target audience" is a demographic concept, not a reality on the web. it is an excuse people use.
the fact of the web is that it's global. your 'target audience' doesn't exist. people from all backgrounds, all areas can and will access your product at some point, either through a search engine or through direct contact.
"target audience" in web design deals more with content and information agregrate than how a site is developed.
meaning, you design a site to be accessible to all, even though the information you provide may be focused on a certain group.
that doesn't mean someone 80 years old and blind won't find interest in your site...they just might, but you've excluded that new user completely - so now, especially in ecom, you have lost business. and NO client want's that.

i agree with everything that has been said.

Im still using an old imac at home with a 15' inch monitor and 800x600 screen. When I have the money Ill upgrade but its expensive fool! Thats why people dont upgrade.
On a 1280 x1040 monitor in work and Im about 2 inches awy from the screen to read what im typing. Id rather read NT on my screen at home...

Good for you Louno - sparker, you sound like a cunt who can't get enough of his/HER self-righteous 'I know so much more about this than anyone else that I'm going to lecture everyone with a smug essay' bullshit.
Come back at me in less than 1000 words bitch...
- demoniser0
Louno - respect for saying the necessary. Where would women be now if they didn't burn their bras ? Sparker - you read too much, christ its Friday evening and you're writing essays about pixels. http://www.reinvigorate.net right this second tells us that 44% of users use 1024x768, with prehistoric 8x6 a measly 27%.
Don't you know that majority rules ? (Unless you're Bush)
