cheap and quick, never work for freinds.

well...cheap and quick...it shows...i would say to skin the gallery component to fit the site but as of yet there really is no visual design to it...there needs to be some sort of identity present all the time in the main window (which should not say "flash window" as the title and should IMHO not be a pop-up)...i mean this is to get your friend work and her name isnt even on the site...it just looks flat...there is nothing wrong with minimalism but this design is a little lacking...
...why not make the thumbnails all the same size as the thumbnail windows so the gray bars aren't on the sides...skin the scrollbars (and use the same scrollbar / skin in the other sections of the site)...create a logo / identity...the buttons and type need work...most importantly - define your aesthetic and then execute it consistently throughout the site...there are plenty great examples of makeup artist / fashion sites out there...i would do a little research to try and learn about the audience before doing the visuals...
hope that is not too harsh...just trying to be helpful...i know that it was a low financial priority so i understand cutting some corners...just seems a shame with the great photos you have to work with...you could do something rockin for your folio...

functionally speaking it is rocking. Nothing wrong with it all, you might want to use some better styled fonts. I mean that's just my opinion. You can get some nice ones from miniml.com and fontsforflash.com

anyway this is interesting to me because your client is African and I date an African chick and she has dabbled in modelling and MC'ing shows and shit with Fashion in South Africa and Namibia.

hey wait a second, I think your using my button sound, sweet hehee it's always funny to see those things in action. Want some more just E-mail me I have some private stock that are much better ;)

why the pop-up? it serves no functional or aeshetic purpose.
the site would be exactly the same if you used the browser space provided.
why do you need an "enter" page? the flash content isn't heavy enough to warn a user about....and since it's flash, it preforms exactly the same on any platform in any browser that supports flash (ie. linux, unix, windows and mac...the major os's).
and finally...why flash? the site is simple enough that it could be produced in valid xhtml and css and not only be accessible to everyone and everything, but it would be less strain on the server, plugin independent and generate less bandwidth for you - ultimately reducing cost.
you said be harsh. it makes no sense to produce simple, minimal sites like this in flash. the only loss you suffer is the menu animations...which, really as as user i could care less about.
:)
as for the design. clean, simple, informative...works for me...i agree about the fonts, though.

no need for the pop up.
I don't like the boxes around the menu links - IMHO would look much better without them...
The transiional animation is a little weak.
Could do with a better typeface

ok stop already.... no, only joking thanks for the crit, some very good points if I hadn't already been shaged on the money i would put all of them into action.
