Im trying to create a depth of field effect in photoshop. But I don't want a clear image slapped on a blurry background. Im trying to get my image to gradually unblur if that makes any sense?. The left side is blurry which then gradually unblurs to sharp image on the right. Thats about as clear as i can explain.
sorry!!

I think there's a 3rd party filter called varifocus, but I don't know if it works

try playing with a combination of selections based on a 100%-0% opacity gradient and the blur & median tool...
it'll get you exactly that result.

why not try, duplicating the in-focus layer, and doing a gausian blur on that. then either using a feather slection edge, or a very very large soft edged erasure brush, delate a portion of the blurred layer to revela thein focus one. the blur-to-focus transition is craeted in that featherd zone thats erased. ive done this before, it takes some practice and luck.

I've done it the same same way as buss but have done a black to white gradient on an alpha channel (loaded it up onto the blurred layer). - gives a very nice smooth transition. Work into that with eraser on differing levels of transparency.
